Footballing action is set to return in the Steel City of Jamshedpur as home team Jamshedpur FC lock horns against Calcutta giants Mohammedan SC. Jamshedpur FC’s new gaffer, Owen Coyle, had faced a tough time in getting the better of the Black Panthers during his Chennaiyin FC days.
The Red Miners would be hungry for silverware after coming agonisingly close to reaching the finals of ISL last season and facing heartbreak in the Super Cup 2024-25 Finals against FC Goa. They are reunited with Owen Coyle, who has previously coached some of the top teams like Burnley, Bolton Wanderers and Houston Dynamo in the MLS.
The Black Panthers are led by Mehrajuddin Wadoo, who took over the reins after Andrey Chernyshov parted ways with the club last season. They have an all Indian squad, and it will be interesting to see exciting talents like Gaurav Bora, Hira Mondal and Kiyam Amarjit Singh getting enough game time to impress.

Both teams have faced each other three times so far in history. Mohammedan SC are one of the oldest clubs of India with a glorious legacy of over a century. The Tata-led franchise made its debut in ISL back in 2017. Their first ever encounter dates back to 2022, when Mohammedan was not even promoted to ISL.
It was the Durand Cup game in Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The Red Miners, led by TFA graduate Sandip Mandi, fielded a reserve side including the likes of Vinil Poojary, Nikhil Barla and Mohit Dhami. The Black Panthers went on to thrash the Jharkhand outfit 3-0, and Marcus Joseph from Trinidad gave two assists.
After Mohammedan gained promotion to ISL, these two sides first met in the Furnace. The Jamshedpur boys went on to score thrice as Sanan, Stephen Eze and Javi Siverio found their names in the scoresheet. A late consolation goal was bagged by Mohammed Irshad in the dying few minutes of the game.
The most recent encounter between these two sides was back in February 2025 at the Kishore Bharati in Kolkata. Ritwik Das and Nikhil Barla scored two goals as Jamshedpur FC went on to complete their season double against Mohammedan at their fortress.
