Khalid Jamil also spoke about his intentions of managing the Indian national team.
Jamshedpur FC are now mathematically out of contention for the ISL playoffs’ sixth spot and will want to end the season on a high when they host FC Goa on Tuesday in their last outing this season. Head coach Khalid Jamil had to say a lot about the season and his team’s spirit to keep it alive till the very end.
Here are the extracts from everything the tactician shared to the media in the pre-match press conference.
About the playoffs
Khalid Jamil started the interaction with a ‘thank you’ note to the club for trusting him mid-season. He cited, “It’s truly fulfilling for me to be coaching Jamshedpur FC, and I’m immensely grateful to the club for entrusting me with this role.”
He spoke about the playoffs and went on to say, “As for our performance, I firmly believe we merit a spot in the top-six. Securing a win in our upcoming home game would certainly make the situation more comfortable. However, despite this, I can’t shake off the feeling of dissatisfaction because I strongly believe we belong in the top-six.”
The manager shared his reasons to back his conviction of making it to playoffs. He commented, “It’s not about assigning blame; rather, it’s about recognizing our potential. The players have shown commendable dedication, both foreign and Indian, putting in their utmost effort. I consider myself fortunate to work with such committed individuals. The support from the management has been invaluable as well. Yet, the fact remains that we fell short of our target, and while I refrain from pointing fingers, I maintain that we deserve better.
“Looking ahead, we must aim higher. Our capabilities demand it. As we prepare for the next season, we must strive for excellence in all aspects, ensuring that our facilities and performance reflect our true potential,” he added.
On coaching the Indian national team
After the recent results of the Indian football team and consistent drops in FIFA rankings, head coach Igor Stimac had to face backlash from the fans. There is much anticipation about his future in India, and Khalid Jamil was asked if he would be interested in coaching the national team.
The tactician shared, “Certainly, about this topic, I’m contemplating the upcoming match. As for coaching the Indian national team, that’s something to consider at a later time. I’m not assigning blame to Igor. He’s also performing well. Let’s monitor the situation and see how it unfolds.”
He further clarified, “However, my focus remains on my professional duties. Whenever I have the opportunity, I’m committed to showcasing my abilities. Currently, my dedication is solely towards Jamshedpur FC.”
Message to the fans
The manager took the opportunity to thank the fans for the last time this season and urged to fill the stands against FC Goa.
Khalid Jamil shared on a heartfelt note, “I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout. Their unwavering support, from the first minute to the last, has been invaluable. It’s important to continue backing us because without their support, our achievements would not be possible. From the bottom of my heart, I am genuinely thankful. Let’s continue to receive their support moving forward.”
