Jose Molina reflects on Bengaluru FC clash and title race before key ISL clash

Bengaluru FC had earlier thrashed Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan 3-0 in ISL.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they host Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Monday (27 January). The Mariners will be desperate to extend their lead on top of the league, with FC Goa having closed down the gap to just four points.
Ahead of the game, Jose Molina was asked if he’s nervous of Goa’s threat for the ISL shield race and answered: “I have absolute confidence in the work we are doing, with the work of the staff and the players. We haven’t won the last two games, yes, and Goa have closed the gap on us. But still, there are many games to play and I have the utmost confidence in my team.”
On facing Bengaluru FC in ISL
Molina is not exactly ‘gunning for revenge’ against Bengaluru FC after seeing his side lose 3-0 to them earlier this season, but is eager to see them get back to picking up three points. He claimed: “Bengaluru FC are a really good team, they were in the first position in the table through the beginning of the campaign. They might not have good results in the last few games, but we know it won’t be easy to beat them.
“I do not think that it’s an advantage to play a home match, we need the three points. We need to keep working towards the top of the table, fight for the shield. All I have in my mind is to get three points and win tomorrow,” he added.
On Sunil Chhetri and Mohun Bagan backline
The Spanish gaffer is very respectful of the threat that Sunil Chhetri brings, having scored 11 goals in the ISL this season. But he’s adamant that his side need to focus on Bengaluru’s threat as a whole and believes that his backline is more than strong enough to sustain their threat, as he stated: “Chhetri is a really good player, he’s a top goal-scorer and of course, we have to be wary of him. But only just him, we are not going to only play against one player but the entire team. They are a really good team and we have to do our job.
“We have really great players, but they great players up front too. Every match is different, but we are playing against really good players in every match. We have to look into all the entire team, not just the defence. The defending is about the full team, about 11 players. We have to be strong as a team, we have to be strong as individuals, which we have been for a long time.
“We are a team that conceded the fewest goals, so we are really strong defensively. If we can do better, that’s great. We don’t have to be more aware of the opposition attacking threat, because every match is the same for us and we must be 100% alert to defend as a whole team,” he finished off with.
