Vishal Kaith has been a pivotal part of Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan’s success this season in ISL.

Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan are set to play their first match since being adjourned the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) league shield championship when they travel to face Mumbai City on Saturday (1 March, 2025).

The Mariners have already sealed the no.1 spot in the ISL table and qualified for the semi-finals. Despite that, Jose Molina refuses to let his players slack off as he wants them to compete strongly for the next two league phase matches before the knockout stages. He stated: “It’s not the same as when you are playing to try to win the shield, than playing with the shield already won. But we have been clear that we must keep going, keep working and keep competing because there is still some distance until the semi-finals.

“We cannot stop working or stop competing, we must keep going – try to do our best in the remaining two games and try to win those. We have some records to achieve this season. We can still improve and I’m urging my players to keep going and play to our best in the last two matches to win,” Jose Molina also added.

The Spanish gaffer also gave a lengthy explanation of Vishal Kaith being the only Mohun Bagan player to start all their 22 matches so far this season. Jose Molina explained: “Look, we have Dheeraj Singh and Arsh Anwar in our goalkeeping department, a goalkeeper from the reserve team is also training with us. I always say I’ll put the best line-up always to win matches and Vishal was always there. He’s the best, in my mind. That is clear. I cannot tell you anything else.

“In any case, he played all the matches because he avoided injuries, because he had no suspensions and is always available. If any moment Dheeraj or Arsh has to play, I’m absolutely sure they’ll do really well and help the team. But I have to make my decisions and Vishal, from the beginning, is doing a great job. He’s making good saves in key moments in matches, and enjoying a great season. There is no reason for me to consider changing him. He’s played 22 matches so far, we’ll see if he plays the 23rd one. He has good techniques in terms of saving, he is good with his feet.

“He’s really good behind the sticks, he’s fast and he’s really good covering the back of his defence. He can control spaces behind the defence and one important thing for me, is that he doesn’t make mistakes. The first thing I see in goalkeepers is not their saving, but the type of goals they concede. To see if the goals he conceded is because he made mistakes, or because rivals put good shots on target. When you see the goals we’ve conceded, it’s not because of Vishal’s mistake.

“Maybe one against Kerala Blasters here, but that can happen. There have been no goals conceded because Vishal directly made a mistake. He’s played at a really good level, made no mistakes and helped the team really well,” Jose Molina finished with.
