Jose Molina reflects on tricky Mohammedan SC threat before ISL derby

Mohun Bagan sit at the top of the ISL table.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan will be playing their fourth derby in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) when they face off against Mohammedan Sporting in the ‘Mini Kolkata Derby’ on Saturday (1 February 2025).
The Mariners are flying high on the top of the table and face the side currently at the rock bottom of the ISL standings.
Despite the sheer difference in fortunes of both sides, Jose Molina refuses to take this game lightly. He believes it’ll be a challenging task for his players, as he stated: “It’s not going to be easy, even with all the troubles they have. They have shown their character in the last matches, fighting and putting really good teams under pressure. That is because Mohammedan is a really good team.
“Here, sometimes the difference between winning or losing games is very small. We have to fight a lot to win the game tomorrow. I have confidence in our ability to do so, play well and win. With all the troubles they have, Mohammedan have shown a lot of character. They have my respect as a coach, as they are doing really well and fighting with all the troubles they are having,” he also added.
On his team’s performance in ISL
Furthermore, when asked about the secret of his side’s success so far this season, especially when it comes to them keeping 10 clean sheets in 18 ISL games, Molina replied: “There are no secrets, from my point of view. There are no secrets in football, it’s to be a team. When you have 11 players in the pitch when you have the ball all the players need to try and help in the attack.
“When you don’t have the ball, all the 11 players have to work together to defend. It’s about attacking in the same way, defending in the same way, focusing, maintaining concentration, trying not to make mistakes and helping each other. If I had to choose one thing we are doing really well right now, is that we are playing like a team,” he finished.
Mohun Bagan can go 10 points clear of second-place FC Goa at the top of the ISL table with a win over Mohammedan Sporting and take a big step forward in sealing the league shield championship.
