Jose Molina was happy with the performance of his players.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan leapt to the top of the Indian Super League (ISL) table with their dominant 3-0 win over Jamshedpur FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (November 23).
The Mariners were in control all game long, with goals from Tom Aldred (15′), Liston Colaco (45+2′) and Jamie Maclaren (75′) helping them soar past Bengaluru FC to be the new table-toppers.
After the game, Jose Molina admitted that it’ll take a major task for the Mariners to hold onto the top spot in the table until the end of the league campaign. He stated: “It’ll be tough (to keep hold of no.1 spot). It’s challenging to get to the top of the table and win the championship here in India or any part of the world.
“To win a championship, you have to be a very good team and be consistent for a very long time. I’m really happy to be where we are, but the job is not done as we need to work a lot going forward.
“We need to win a lot of matches to clinch the championship. In football, you have to go in the same way – work hard and never relax because the rest of the teams, Bengaluru FC and NorthEast United will win matches and if we want to stay on top of the table, we need to win matches too. Winning matches is really difficult in the ISL and we must be strong every day,” Jose Molina added.
Mohun Bagan have the same points as Bengaluru FC (17) after eight games played for more teams, but a superior goal difference (+8) has helped them get to the top of the table.
The Mariners now need to go on a strong winning run to keep their place as table toppers and will look to get another big win when they face Chennaiyin FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on November 30.
