Jose Molina still praised Mohun Bagan players for their fighting spirit.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan sustained their second loss of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season by going down to a 2-1 defeat to FC Goa at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa on Friday (20 December).
In a rather scrappy effort, a Brison Fernandes brace helped the Gaurs get the better of the ISL league leaders and end the Mariners’ eight-match unbeaten run.
Speaking on the result and his side’s performances after the win, Jose Molina stated: “It was a tough match for both teams. Both teams wanted to win, we tried to attack and maintain a strong defensive shape. It wasn’t easy for either team. We were unlucky in the first goal and the first goal is always important for a match. We had some chances to score and we could draw the match.
“They did some good actions for the second goal to go in front. We tried until the end, we changed the formation to three-at-the-back and put more attackers to try to score to get a goal to at least get us one point. We weren’t successful in the final third and finally, we couldn’t win or draw. We did a good job and we were unlucky because we deserved at least a point from this,” he added.
The Spanish gaffer also had a lot of positives to look back on despite the loss, as he reflected by claiming: “I take a lot of positives from the performance. We played a good match, it was not easy because Goa is a really good team. We played well, had the chance to score, attacked in good situations and we conceded two goals.
“That is something we don’t like. But we defended in a game when it was not defending against the way Goa attacked as they have good attackers who have good technique and good movement. We defended well, but we conceded two goals.
“When you win games, not everything is positive. When you lose, not everything is negative. I’m not happy with the result today, of course, but I’m happy with how the players performed. They gave a great effort and were unlucky today but that is football. We keep working for the next one, ” he also quipped.
Mohun Bagan will hope to get back to winning in the ISL when they travel to face Punjab FC in their final match of 2024 against Punjab FC on Thursday (26 December).
