Jose Molina is not worried about injury concerns in his team.

Mohun Bagan will be eager to end their 2024 on a high note when they face off against Punjab FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi on Thursday (26 December). The Mariners are looking to get back to winning ways after their recent loss to FC Goa.

Ahead of the match, Jose Molina was asked if he’s worried about Jamie Maclaren’s lack of goals in big matches or in away travels for the Kolkata giants. Jose Molina stated: “In my opinion, Maclaren is doing a really good job. Of course, we’d like it if he scored more goals as he’s the best one and our first option to score more goals. We’re trying to help him to get scoring more often.

“We want the strikers and attacking players to score goals, that is part of our job to do so. He’s having the chances and I’m sure he’ll be focused on regaining his scoring run in the next matches,” he also added.

Jose Molina also had praise for midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad for his bright recent performances for Mohun Bagan, with the midfielder even doing well in a deeper midfield position. Jose Molina claimed: “He’s working well. Working as a midfielder I felt he could be a good fit and I’m very happy with his performances in the last matches.

“He’s a talented player who can play in different positions and I’m using him as an inverted winger at times to come inside between the lines to help some players progress and keep passes to the strikers. We have different options with him and that is good for the team,” Jose Molina also quipped.

Mohun Bagan currently hold a two-point lead over second-place Bengaluru FC in the ISL title race. A win over the Shers can help the Mariners increase that lead to five points (with an extra game played) and ensure that they head into 2025 as the ISL table-toppers.
