Jose Molina was impressed with his boys after a comeback win against Kerala Blasters.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan are eager to maintain their rich vein of form in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they face off against FC Goa at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa on Friday (20 December).
The Mariners are coming off a thrilling 3-2 win over Kerala Blasters, where they had to come back from being 2-1 down to take all three points. It took a thrilling late long-range winner from Alberto Rodriguez to help the Kolkata heavyweights get the win over Kerala Blasters, showcasing their fighting spirit under Jose Molina.
The Spanish head coach has spoken about his side’s strengths and the key reasons for their ability to mount such comebacks, as he stated: “What we try to do is to play well, score as many goals as possible, concede as few as possible and ultimately to win matches. We have a lot of good players, not only the starting XI, but all the 25 squad members are working well.
“Some have to wait for their opportunities from the bench and that makes us a really strong squad. In some moments, we can win even if we aren’t playing at our best.
“That happened in the last match, we were not at our best and even with that, the players proved their character and team spirit to come back and to win – even if they weren’t playing well. Every match is different and what we try to do is play well. We’d like to play well and win because the most important thing at Mohun Bagan is to win,” Jose Molina also added.
Apart from their win over Kerala Blasters, Mohun Bagan produced another memorable comeback earlier in the 2024-25 ISL campaign when they came back from being 2-1 down against NorthEast United at home to pull off a 3-2 win.
That marked their first win of the ISL campaign and they haven’t looked back since, soaring their way to the top of the table and are currently two points above second-place Bengaluru FC. The Mariners will look to extend their lead over the Blues and the rest of the title challengers by defeating Goa.
