Mohun Bagan will look to overcome the Hyderabad FC challenge and increase their lead.

Mohun Bagan look to start 2025 on a positive note when they host Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on January 2.

Even though the Mariners might be facing a Hyderabad FC side in 12th place in the ISL table, Jose Molina is not taking this game lightly at all. Ahead of the match, Jose Molina stated: “It’s never easy to win a match in the ISL, doesn’t matter against which team and where we play.

“You have to work a lot and do a great job to win every match in the ISL. We are at the top of the table and Hyderabad are in a lower position, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. We need to work hard and do a good job in the ninety minutes to beat them.

“It always gives extra motivation to win matches. If we win, it’ll be extra motivation and validation for the work we are doing. That is what we try to do, if we win everyone is happy. It’s extra motivation for everyone to keep going, work harder if possible and win the next one,” Jose Molina also added.

Jose Molina’s thoughts

Mohun Bagan owner Sanjeev Goenka announced last month that fans will get free entry to the Salt Lake Stadium for this match, as a New Year gift.

As many as 40,000 fans are expected to fill the stadium to cheer on for the Mariners and Molina feels this can give them some added motivation to get a big win, as Jose Molina stated: “Of course, to have that number of fans on the stands will inspire us to play better and fight harder. We want to make them happy because that is our point.

“Our point as players, as a team and as a coach is to make the fans happy. That is part of the game (to increase the goal difference). We’ll fight to make the fans enjoy the game, score as many goals as possible as always and concede as few as possible,” Jose Molina concluded.
