Ivan Vukomanovic was disappointed with his player’s reaction, resulting in the red cards.
Kerala Blasters FC suffered a setback in their recent Indian Super League contest against East Bengal FC at the JLN Stadium in Kochi on Wednesday. The Yellow Army lost the contest by a 2-4 scoreline as the Red & Gold Brigade kept their hopes of reaching the 2023-24 season’s playoff alive.
Ivan Vukomanovic, head coach of the Kerala Blasters FC, took part in the post-match press conference and talked about several issues including his players losing temper during the game. Two players from the KBFC lineup were shown red cards due to volatile reactions to situations.
Here is a look at what the tactician had to say after a third defeat in four matches for Kerala Blasters FC in the 2023-24 Indian Super League.
One of the most difficult seasons
Ivan Vukomanovic expressed that the current season has been quite demanding with him having to deal with several issues beyond his control. “With so many difficulties and issues, I must admit, as a coach I have been working for 10 years, and this is my fourth job, this season has been, by far, one of the most difficult seasons in a way of managing everything around the team which you cannot control and are dependent on that,” the head coach shared.
We are where we wanted to be
Despite the many difficulties with injuries and a congested fixture schedule, Ivan Vukomanovic’s men secured qualification into the playoffs. Expecting his players to keep their spirits high, the tactician said, “It is a nice feeling seeing the players, coming to training sessions every day with a smile, trying to stay positive whether you win or lose or whatever happens with issues such as injuries. This is the way how you improve in life. We are happy as a club, we are where we wanted to be.”
Disappointed with the reactions of the players
Ivan Vukomanovic sounded unhappy and disappointed with the volatile reaction of his players that led to two red cards on the night. In this context, he said, “As a player, you must know there will be duels and it will be tough. You must be cautious and take care of your actions and reactions.
Not a long time ago, we got the information from the referees that there would be a change in approach towards certain things that were not there before. Referees want to improve the discipline level of the ISL which I respect, approve, and support. As a coach, it makes me disappointed, especially the second red card which was a stupid reaction.”
