Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be squaring off against perennial rivals Bengaluru FC as they meet again in the 2024-25 ISL Final on Saturday. The Mariners and the Blues have met each other a couple of times in the playoffs in recent years, with the former trumping over the latter.
Ahead of the latest meeting in their intense rivalry, Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru will be keen to bring the best out of each other. With competitive meetings between the two sides over recent seasons, let us look at the last time these clubs met in an ISL Final.
What happened when Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs Bengaluru FC took place in the ISL Final?

The last time the Mariners and the Blues faced each other was in the 2022-23 ISL Final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The Mariners had finished third in the league standings with 34 points in 20 league games, ahead of the Blues on goal difference, who finished fourth with the same points tally.
The Mariners triumphed over Odisha FC in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win before triumphing 4-3 on penalties over Hyderabad FC in the semifinals. The Blues also were pushed to the limit in the quarterfinals as they edged past Kerala Blasters FC with a scoreline of 1-0 after extra time. Bengaluru were pushed to the limit against Mumbai City FC in the semifinals as they won 9-8 on penalties.
The Final witnessed two teams with nearly identical seasons throughout the year going head-to-head to be crowned the 2022-23 ISL champions. The game witnessed an interesting start as Dimitri Petratos opened the scoring for the Mariners in the 14th minute, converting from the spot past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
Following the goal, the Blues had plenty of good opportunities to draw themselves level, but a poorly timed tackle from Subhasish Bose in added time earned them a penalty. Sunil Chhetri stepped up for Bengaluru and calmly slotted it after Vishal Kaith was sent the wrong way.
The two sides had to wait until former Mariners striker Roy Krishna instinctively latched onto a loose ball after a corner kick to head the Blues into the lead. However, the clubโs delight was shortlived as Dimi Petratos helped his side draw level, converting his second penalty of the game in the 85th minute. The game went to penalties, and two misses from Bruno Ramires and Pablo Perez for Bengaluru FC helped Mohun Bagan Super Giant win 4-2 on penalties.
The victory marked their first ISL championship victory and highlighted the electrifying atmosphere built en route to the ISL Final. With both rivals renewing their rivalry, Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be keen to win their second ISL title.
