Mohun Bagan were able to achieve a first in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) by retaining the ISL league shield championship. After having won it in the previous campaign, the Mariners also won the ongoing ISL campaign’s league shield title in comprehensive fashion under Jose Molina’s guidance.

The Kolkata heavyweights became the first team to ever win back-to-back ISL league shield championships. They are now also the only team to have won two league shield championships in the competition, marking their utter dominance in the top flight over the course of the last few years.

There really isn’t any disputing Mohun Bagan’s league shield championship win because they absolutely stormed their way to clinching the trophy. Even though they only began the campaign with a draw and suffered a horrible 3-0 loss to Bengaluru FC in the early stages, the Mariners maintained impressive momentum and consistency to clinch the shield.

A huge component of Mohun Bagan’s dominance in the ISL league phase was their immaculate home form. That is because the Mariners won 11 of their 12 matches at the Salt Lake Stadium, winning every single league phase home game after the initial 2-2 draw against Mumbai City.

They also won four of their 12 away games and only lost twice across the entire league phase, with their ability to rack up points helping them stay ahead of FC Goa in the title race. The Mariners were able to set a number of impressive ISL records with their impressive campaign, which included becoming the first side to pick up 50+ points in the league phase.

Not only were they an entertaining unit to watch by producing some thrilling attacking football in the league phase, but the Mariners were also a rock-solid unit defensively. They kept notching up clean sheets to set some admirable feats in the defensive end, with Jose Molina maintaining the perfect balance of an unbreakable backline and a clinical attacking line.

11 – Mohun Bagan won 11 of their 12 home games at the Salt Lake Stadium in the 2024-25 ISL league phase. This included 10 wins in-a-row and the most number of home wins managed by any team in any ISL league phase campaign.

20 – The Mariners were dominant from set-piece scenarios in the 2024-25 ISL League phase campaign. They scored 20 goals from set-piece situations, the most managed by any team in a single league campaign.
