The Indian Super League (ISL) Final stage is set as Mohun Bagan Super Giant will host Bengaluru FC at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday. As the reigning ISL Shield Winners, the Mariners would be keen to complete a domestic double by winning the ISL title and trumping the Blues once again.

The two sides’ most recent encounter occurred at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata. Mohun Bagan and the Blues were battling for a playoff spot, with the latter also trying to cost the former the ISL shield.

While the game witnessed the Blues maintain the lion’s share of possession, they also scuppered several opportunities to take the lead. While the Mariners took nine shots in the game, it was Liston Colaco’s spectacular effort that earned his side all three points in a crucial game.

Bengaluru FC 3-0 Mohun Bagan Super Giant (28th September 2024)

The high-flying Blues welcomed Mohun Bagan in match week three of the 2024-25 ISL season to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium after two back-to-back clean sheets. The Mariners faced the Blues after a tough start to the season, with four points from their first three games.

It was the Blues who came out on top against the Mariners courtesy of goals from Edgar Mendez, Sunil Chhetri and Suresh Singh Wangjam on the night. It was a perfect night for the Mariners who succumbed to a rare loss to the Blues.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2-2 Bengaluru FC (27th August 2024)

Both teams met during the semi-finals of the Durand Cup with a place in the Final at stake for the Mariners and the Blues. The deadlock in the tie was broken by Sunil Chhetri when he converted from the spot for his third goal of the tournament in the 43rd minute.

The Blues then further added a second goal early in the second half with Vinith Venkatesh, who finished with aplomb in the 50th minute courtesy of Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s assist. However, the Mariners were never going to give up easily, and two goals from Dimi Petratos (68′) and Anirudh Thapa (84′) took things to penalties.

Following misses from Halicharan Narzary and Aleksandar Jovanovic, Mohun Bagan progressed to another Durand Cup Final, winning 6-5 on penalties.

Bengaluru FC 0-4 Mohun Bagan Super Giant (11th April 2024)

Match week 22 of the Indian Super League witnessed the ninth-placed Blues welcoming the league leaders Mariners to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. A game which the Blues fans dreaded, considering the season they had endured, and it also witnessed their worst nightmares come true.

It was a devastating performance from the Mariners, who walked out 0-4 winners, courtesy of goals from Hector Yuste, Manvir Singh, Anirudh Thapa, and Armando Sadiku. The game also witnessed Sunil Chhetri missing a penalty in the game, in a rare off-night for the Indian superstar.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-0 Bengaluru FC (27th September 2023)

The first meeting between the two sides during the 2023-24 season witnessed Mohun Bagan triumph over the Blues in matchweek 2. The game, which ended 1-0 courtesy of a lovely goal from Hugo Boumous in the 67th minute,e earned his side all three points.

Another nightmare performance for the Blues, who witnessed two red cards for Bengaluru FC players in Suresh Singh Wangjam and Naorem Roshan Singh. The game set the tone for the catastrophic season that Bengaluru was gonna endure in the coming weeks.
