Mohun Bagan players showed resilience against a formidable opponent.

Mohun Bagan picked up a dominant 3-0 win over Mohammedan SC to get back to winning ways in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (5 October).

The Mariners blew away their city rivals in the first half, with goals from Jamie Maclaren (9’), Subhasish Bose (31’), and Greg Stewart (36’) being enough to end the result there. Here are the player ratings from the match.

Mohun Bagan (by Uttiyo Sarkar)

Vishal Kaith – 6.0

Kaith had a relatively easy outing due to his backline’s good work. Made one save to get his first clean sheet this season.

Asish Rai – 8.0

Rai completely neutralized the sparky Chothe’s threat with his proactive defence. Anticipated the Mohammedan attacking moves perfectly, making six tackles, five possession recoveries, two interceptions and winning seven duels.

Subhasish Bose – 9.0

The Mohun Bagan skipper led from the front with a brilliant derby performance. Scored a great header and then assisted Stewart’s goal with a slick pass. Defensively superb too, dominating Fanai as he made four tackles and won 10 duels!

Anirudh Thapa – 7.5

Thapa played a key role in helping Mohun Bagan’s transitions and helping them dominate the midfield battle. He completed 30+ passes and made eight possession recoveries to help with the counter-attacks, as well as making two tackles and winning eight duels to help defensively.

Lalengmawia Ralte – 6.5

Apuia wasn’t as energetic or impactful as Thapa but partnered with him well to do his job well. He made six possession recoveries and two interceptions, giving the opponents no space to penetrate through the central areas.

Manvir Singh – 5.5

Had a quiet first half but was much more proactive after the break. Created a few nice chances, but lacked his finishing skills as he missed two big chances. Yet to get a goal contribution this season.

Liston Colaco – 6.0

Liston combined well with Greg Stewart and Jamie Maclaren to create some sweet attacking moves. Had several shots saved by the goalkeeper and his final touch weren’t the best, as he missed a few big chances in the second half.

Substitutes

Suhail Bhat – 6.0

Suhail Bhat made a few nice runs into the area but couldn’t get to the end of anything big.

Deepak Tangri – N/R

Helped his side see off the result and preserve their clean sheet till the end.

Ashique Kuruniyan – 6.0

Ashique made his long-awaited return from injury and looked sharp in the short cameo. Created a nice chance in added time.

Mohammedan SC (By Dipro Mukherjee

Padam Chhetri (GK): 4.5

This evening, the Mohammedan custodian will be willing to forget. Mohun Bagan’s tactical prowess upfront shunned his sharp reflexes as he conceded thrice in the first half of the game itself, with the team’s defensive third failing to help Chhetri in an acceptable fashion.

Gaurav Bora: 5.5

Gaurav was decent during the ground duels, winning both of them. He also made three clearances in the game but failed to make the most of his abilities when finding himself in a one-on-one situation against the likes of Jamie Maclaren and Greg Stewart.

Zodingliana Ralte: 4.5

The Mohammedan defender found himself in a miserable state as he failed to establish his presence on the left flank in the first derby of their debut season against the ISL heavyweights, Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Amarjit Singh Kiyam: 5

Amarjit did have the most number of touches for Mohammedan tonight but didn’t have any tactical involvement throughout the course of the game.

Makan Winkle Chothe: 5

The speedster from Manipur tried to get past Ashish Rai on quite a few occasions but couldn’t make it worthwhile as he fell short of the Mohun Bagan defender’s strong physicality.

Fanai Lalremsanga: 4

The Indian winger still seemed lost in the celebrations from their maiden ISL win back in Chennai last week. Lalremsanga had lost the most duels in this game, with the total count being nine.

Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak: 4.5

Zuidika too had a forgetful night against the Mariners. He seemed completely out of rhythm on Salt Lake’s wet grass and failed to make an impact with his wealth of experience.

Substitutes:

Sagolsem Bikash Singh: 5

Bikash came in as a substitute for Makan Chothe in the second half but wasn’t able to do much to fill in the void for the debutants.

Samad Ali Mallick: N/A

Wahengbam Angousana Luwang: N/A
