Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the ISL Shield this season as well.

Mohun Bagan clinched the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) title with a thrilling 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, on Saturday (12 April 2025).

The Blues took a lead through Alberto Rodriguez’s own goal in the 49th minute before Jason Cummings equalized for his side with a nice penalty in the 72nd minute. The game was forced into extra time, with Jamie Maclaren scoring the winner in the 96th minute to help his side complete the ISL double of winning both the shield and trophy in the 2024-25 season.

Bengaluru FC take unexpected lead

The hosts began the game with a lot of energy behind them, pushing back Bengaluru FC with their attacking moves. Despite getting in behind the defence at times, the Mariners couldn’t really test Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with anything major early on.

Bengaluru FC started taking control after the early flurry, with Sunil Chhetri having a header cleared away from the line in the 19th minute by Subhasish Bose. His cross attempt also went over the bar four minutes later. Ryan Williams set up a nice chance for Chhetri in the 45th minute, but the forward’s header went well over the bar.

The game picked up pace after the break. Ryan Williams came close to scoring in the 47th minute, but his close-range effort was denied superbly by Vishal Kaith. Bengaluru FC were handed an opening goal in the 49th minute when Alberto Rodriguez guided a cross into his own net.

Mohun Bagan started attacking with more urgency after conceding, with Jason Cummings forcing a save from Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in the 59th minute. Substitute Sahal Abdul Samad managed to dribble into the box six minutes later, but his effort was blocked.

The Mariners were then handed a lifeline in the 72nd minute, when Jamie Maclaren’s shot struck Chinglensana Singh’s arm. Jason Cummings struck a perfect penalty to equalize the score, setting up a thrilling finish. Ashique Kuruniyan brilliantly slid into the box in the 89th minute, but his shot was blocked. Maclaren had a great chance to score after being played open in the box in stoppage time, but his poor control wasted a big chance.

Jamie Maclaren wins it for the Mariners

Maclaren, however, made up for his error in the 96th minute as he pounced on Chinglensana’s failure to clear Greg Stewart’s shot before producing a smashing finish through Gurpreet’s legs to make it 2-1. Bengaluru FC pushed hard for an equalizer but failed to breach Vishal Kaith’s goal.

This win means that Mohun Bagan have become only the second team to win an ISL double after Mumbai City. The Mariners have now also won the ISL trophy twice, with this win in the finale marking a perfect end to a dominant 2024-25 campaign in the division for Jose Molina’s side.
