Muhammad Hammad won the I-League 2023-24 best defender award.

Former Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Goa defender Muhammad Hammad, who won the 2023-24 I-League Best Defender award, has left FC Goa to return to I-League club Real Kashmir. The news of the move comes just a month before the winter transfer window opens.

The move comes following his standout I-League campaign last year, which didn’t translate to much game time with the Gaurs in ISL 2024-25.

Muhammad Hammad’s career so far

The 27-year-old seemed to struggle to adapt to life away from home, which impacted his ability to settle within the Gaurs’ setup. Adapting to new environments and surroundings is key for any player to perform to his highest potential.

It is a huge acquisition for Real Kashmir, who will be delighted to welcome back the defensive stalwart. His impressive performances for Real Kashmir saw him keep 12 clean-sheets in 24 league appearances.

He was a pivotal member of his club’s success during his earlier tenure with Kashmir. A player known for his robust tackling, aerial dominance, and leadership on the pitch, he will undoubtedly strengthen Real Kashmir’s backline as they aim for promotion this season.

Hammad gets a new chance to prove himself once again

Hammad’s departure from Goa will give a chance to prove himself for Real Kashmir in the I-League. The situation reflects the challenges players sometimes face when transitioning to new environments. While his time with the club was short-lived, the experience adds to Hammad’s football journey, who will be determined to prove his doubters wrong.

The move will be ideal for fans of Real Kashmir, who will be eager to see the familiar face back in action in their colors. His return will bolster the team’s defensive solidity and provide a morale boost against fellow title contenders like Inter Kashi and Dempo SC in the second half of the season.

Hammad’s return to familiar surroundings can potentially revitalize his form as he hopes to make a name for himself once again.
