Lallianzuala Chhangte is raising the bar for Indian players in the premier league competition of the country.
Lallianzuala Chhangte is hitting a rich vein of form at the perfect time for Mumbai City FC. His goals in both legs of the 2023-24 Indian Super League semi-finals against FC Goa played a crucial role in earning the Islanders a place in the final of the competition.
With his strike against the Gaurs in the second leg of the semi-final, the 26-year-old took his goal tally for the season to 10, becoming the first Indian player in the history of the Indian Super League to score 10+ goals in multiple seasons.
Lallianzuala Chhangte’s performances this season have been a joy to watch and Petr Kratky, the head coach of Mumbai City FC, relies on the Indian winger to create scoring chances, giving him the freedom to express his talent on the pitch. Thanks to this newfound belief in his qualities, Chhangte is setting the stage alight for the Islanders and scoring goals for fun.
Record Breaker
Lallianzuala Chhangte has reached 10 goals and six assists in the ongoing 2023-24 Indian Super League season. It is worth noting that this has been the second instance when Chhangte scored in double digits as mentioned above. He scored 10 goals and delivered six assists during the 2022-23 season as well, returning almost identical figures this season, showcasing his incredible consistency.
He is one step away from guiding the Islanders to a second ISL Trophy win, with Mohun Bagan standing in the club’s way to glory. In terms of all-time statistics, Chhangte has scored 40 goals in the Indian Super League, becoming the second-highest goal-scoring Indian after Sunil Chhetri. With 10 goals in the 2023-24 season, he is also the highest goal-scorer for Mumbai City FC, leaving behind the likes of Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Vikram Partap Singh and more.
