The Islanders are currently ranked at the top position of the ISL 2023-24 points table.
It’s a sign of relief for the Mumbai City FC fans as the Islanders have officially announced the signing of Slovenian forward Jakub Vojtuš. The Islanders took to their social media accounts to formally announce the decision of successfully strike a deal with the 30-year-old forward.
This big transfer move will act as a relief for the Petr Kratky-managed camp as it previously dealt blows with injury of two prolific forwards Ayush Chhikara and Iker Guarrotxena, who suffered knee injuries in matches against FC Goa & Punjab FC respectively.
Who is Jakub Vojtuš ?
The freshly signed 6 feet 1 inch forward of Mumbai City FC hails from Slovakia. Vojtus is a prolific forward with a knack for scoring goals. Jakub Vojtuš perfectly fits into the role of a center-forward. He can also do his job well as a second striker and a right winger.
The 30-year-old Slovak last played for FC Politehnica Iași, which competes in Romania’s top-division domestic league, Liga I.
Jakub has also represented the Slovakia national football team across various age groups in the U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19 & U-21 categories.
Why signing Jakub Vojtuš was vital for Mumbai City FC?
Currently ranked at the top position of the ISL 2023-24 points table, Mumbai City FC are eyeing to defend the coveted ISL shield. The Islanders at present will face the biggest challenge from Mohun Bagan, who are placed second in the table with points equivalent to Mumbai City FC. The only difference between the two champion sides is a goal’s difference.
Mohun Bagan are certainly in a better position as they have a game more to play than Mumbai. With that being said, the Islanders will be eyeing to leave no stone unturned in their quest for glory. And with the injury of prolific forwards Ayush Chhikara and Iker Guarrotxena, the future was looking a bit off-track for Mumbai City. So to keep things in control while facing Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC & Mohun Bagan, Jakub Vojtuš with his goal-scoring prowess will be a boost.
Vojtuš might also turn out to be a trump card for the Islanders when they play the top-6 teams with the dream of clinching the ISL trophy.
