Mumbai City FC vs Odisha FC lineups, team news, prediction & preview
The Islanders host seventh-placed Odisha FC in the sixth matchday.
Mumbai City FC will play against Odisha FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season at the Mumbai Football Arena (MFA) on Sunday. The game comes after the Islanders secured their first win of the season against Western Derby rivals FC Goa away from home in a three-goal affair. The win took Mumbai City out of the bottom three and placed them ninth on the league table.
As for the Kalinga Warriors, they are coming from a 2-1 home win over East Bengal. This was their second win of the season, extending their unbeaten run to three games in the league. Odisha FC have seven points from five games whereas Mumbai City FC have five points from four games. The winner could see themselves entering the top four of the league table on a temporary basis.
Stakes
Mumbai City FC
They say no game is easy in the ISL and Mumbai City FC are about to get a first-hand experience of it in the few upcoming matchdays. After playing Odisha FC, a team placed higher than them on the league table, the Islanders will square off against Kerala Blasters FC, Chennaiyin FC and Punjab FC, also three teams that are placed above them in the league table.
This run could be an early make-or-break moment for the season of the Islanders as they fight to shrug off the dismal start to their season. On the other hand, a win at the Mumbai Football Arena would give them the momentum and confidence to come out on top against the next three opponents.
Odisha FC
Odisha FC, on the other hand, already have momentum on their side. They are on, as aforementioned, a three-game unbeaten streak in the league and they can extend that to five as their next two opponents (Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC) are placed lower than them on the table.
Points off of these two games could give them the confidence to take on the Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Two wins from these two games could also give them a place in the top four of the league table.

Players to watch
Yoell van Nieff (Mumbai City FC)
The defensive midfielder returned with two goal contributions from the game against FC Goa. He first provided an assist against the run of the play through a set-piece opportunity. He then converted an opportunity of his own to hand the Islanders all three points from the game.
This highlights the excellent opportunities the Dutch 31-year-old midfielder provides his team other than the defensive duties. The former Groningen man has a big say on the outcome of the game of the Islanders.
Ahmed Jahouh (Odisha FC)
Ahmed Jahouh is the Juggernauts’ answer to Yoell van Nieff of Mumbai City FC. The former Mumbai City FC midfielder dictates the play like no one else in the league. Every play goes through him and every broken play of the opponents has the involvement of Ahmed Jahouh in one way or another.
The Moroccan midfielder will be key in keeping the ball for Sergio Lobera’s man and like Yoell van Nieff, handles the set-piece duties as well.
Did You Know?
- Ahmed Jahouh has played the second-most long ball per 90 (8.2) in the league so far.
