The two sides played out their first-ever goalless draw in ISL history.

Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC shared one point each, playing out a 0-0 draw in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Wednesday at the Mumbai Football Arena. This is the first goalless match between the two teams in ISL history.

The Islanders started the match with an attacking mindset but failed to find the net. After some time, Bengaluru FC began to dominate the game. Both sides created chances but could not finish off their chances.

Bengaluru FC started the second half more intensely, but they could not get past the custodian of Islanders Phurba Lachenpa. The same can be said about the Blues’ goal custodian, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, as he stood tall amidst Mumbai’s attacks. Here’s the Indian player ratings of the match:

Mumbai City (by Parashar Kalita)

Phurba Lachenpa- 7.0

Phurba improved his performance compared to the last game. He produced a diving save from a strong right-footed shot by Édgar Méndez in the 33rd minute. Bengaluru launched a flurry of attacks in the second half, which Phurba handled well. He made four saves and three clearances throughout the match, earning his first clean sheet of the season.

Valpuia – 6.5

The defender played on the right side. He made an accurate pass to find Nikolaos Karelis in the 13th minute, whose header was saved. In defense, he made five interceptions and three tackles. His passing accuracy was 83% throughout the match.

Mehtab Singh – 6.0

Mehtab started the game as a center-back. He had a decent game, making one clearance and one interception.

Vikram Partap Singh – 6.5

Vikram got his first start in the ISL 2024-25 as a right-winger, and he impressed with some of his runs. He made two crosses and created one chance for Nikolaos Karelis in the eighth minute. Attempted a goal in the closing minutes of the first half, though it went off target and also showcased hunger to win the ball, winning nine duels out of twelve.

Lallianzuala Chhangte – 5.5

Chhangte’s influence was minimal in the match, as he faced heavy man-marking by the Bengaluru FC players. In the second half, he tried to be more impactful in the first ten minutes. However, he could not make any key passes throughout the match.

Brandon Fernandes – 6.5

Brandon started his first game of the season and showed his quality. His crosses were impressive, and he created one chance for Jérémy Manzorro at the brink of half-time.

Nathan Asher Rodrigues – 6.0

The 20-year-old defender played on the left side of the defense. He defended well and helped the team in attack with his overlapping runs. Took a strong shot on target in the 59th minute but missed some headed clearances on the backfoot.

Substitutions:

Noufal – 6.0

Noufal replaced Vikram Partap Singh after the first-half break and tried to win the ball back with his pace. In his first few minutes on the pitch, he attempted a shot that was blocked. Later, in the 72nd minute, his shot on target was easily collected by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Bipin Singh – N/A

Bipin came on in the 85th minute. All he could do, however, in his late cameo was swing in a harmless cross, which was smothered by Gurpreet.

Sahil Panwar – N/A

Sahil completed one pass, creating one chance for Nikolaos, whose shot went off target.

Bengaluru FC (By Preethi)

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu – 7.5

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, put on an incredible performance, making numerous saves throughout the match and consistently denying Mumbai City’s attempts to score. Despite his impressive saves, Bengaluru FC struggled to capitalize on their chances, failing to convert several long balls into goals. Sandhu’s exceptional goalkeeping played a crucial role in keeping the scoreline level.

Rahul Bheke – 7.5

Rahul’s calm demeanor and composure under pressure allowed him to make crucial interventions at key moments, helping to maintain Bengaluru FC’s defensive solidity. Bheke’s performance not only contributed to the team’s clean sheet but also showcased his stature as a reliable center-back.

Roshan Singh – 6.5

Roshan, delivered an impressive performance, dominating the left flank with his pace and attacking prowess. He consistently pushed forward to create chances, making overlapping runs and delivering crosses into the box.

Nikhil Poojary – 7.0

Nikhil’s defensive efforts were commendable, as he tracked back effectively to cover his full-back duties and prevent the opposition from gaining advantage on the right side. While his attacking play showed glimpses of promise, he struggled to create solid chances.

Suresh Singh – 7.0

Suresh Singh’s performance in midfield showcased his versatility. His ability to read the game and anticipate the opposition’s moves was evident in his timely tackles and interceptions.

Vinith Venkatesh – 6.0

Vinith’s overall performance was commendable, but he received a yellow card due to an unnecessary tackle. Otherwise, he displayed proficiency in distributing the ball and providing defensive support when needed.

Sunil Chhetri  – 7.0

Actively looked to create chances, making penetrating runs and attempting to get on the end of crosses. However, Chhetri was frequently caught offside, limiting his opportunities to score a goal.

Substitutions :

Lalremtluanga Fanai – 6.0

Fanai made an immediate impact, showcasing his pace and dribbling skills but couldn’t convert them into anything productive.

Sivasakthi Narayan – N.A

Came into the game in the last ten minutes and his limited minutes did not allow him to fully make a mark on the game.
