ISL 2024-25 New Rules: Change in Salary Cap & other rules
With another exciting ISL season ahead there has been some change in rules.
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the men’s highest level of the Indian football league system. It is administered by the All India Football Federation and its commercial partner Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the league currently comprises of 13 clubs across India.
Currently, the league only follows the promotion process as the club that wins the I-League gets promoted to ISL automatically and ISL clubs qualify for the Asian Continental club competitions, League Shield winners qualify directly for the AFC Champions League Group Stage. The new ball used this season is ISL Nivia Shastra 2.0.
The ISL attained top-tier league status from the 2022-23 season, Since the Inaugural season, six clubs have won the ISL Cup title ATK three times, Chennaiyin FC two times, Mumbai City FC two times, Bengaluru FC one time Hyderabad and Mohun Bagan one time each. Since the introduction of the ISL League Shield Winners Mumbai City has won it twice, and Mohun Bagan, Jamshedpur FC and FC Goa have won it once.
The 2024-25 season will be the 11th season of the Indian Super League, all three Kolkata giants for the first time will face each other in the Indian Super League and surely fans can expect an exciting season ahead which will start from 13th September.
With the new season going to start there have been some new rules have been introduced to the league, let us take a look at those new rules:
Salary Cap
- New Home Grown Player Category added – up to 3 of whom can be excluded from the salary cap. The homegrown players are U-23 players who have been registered with a club for consecutive 3 years immediately preceding ISL 2024-25.
Coaching
- All the teams must have an Indian Assistant Coach, holding the AFC Pro License (or equivalent).
- If the head coach is relieved from their position or suspended for certain matches, the Indian Assistant Coach will take over all head coach duties as the Interim head coach.
Concussion Substitution
- Maximum of one concussion substitution in a match per team, correspondingly the opposing team will receive an additional substitution opportunity.
Wrongful Dismissal
- Claim for wrongful dismissals for direct red cards (for obvious errors) has been introduced by AIFF and incorporated in the League Rules for ISL 2024-25.
