NorthEast United FC announce the signing of Ethyan González ahead of the new season

The Spanish striker joined on a one-year contract

NorthEast United FC have completed the signing of Spanish forward Ethyan González on a one-year deal until the end of the 2026-27 season, with an option to extend by a further year.

The 24-year-old arrives from Qatari side Muaither SC and becomes the Highlanders’ first new foreign signing ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, strengthening the club’s attack as it prepares for another season.

There is a mountain on the island where Ethyan González was born. Mount Teide climbs nearly four kilometres above the Atlantic, the highest point in Spain, shaped by volcanic fire that never truly disappeared.

NorthEast United FC has its own geography, hills that rise green instead of black, carrying a different kind of fire across eight states united by one badge. This season, those two landscapes meet in one shirt.

NorthEast United FC’s new signing Ethyan González comes with a lot of experience

Born on 6 June 2002 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, González is a 1.85-metre right-footed striker who developed through the academy of CD Tenerife before progressing to the club’s reserve side.

His career has since taken him across Spain, Portugal and Qatar, representing Atlético Madrid B on loan, Portuguese side Torreense and most recently Muaither SC, before making the move to Guwahati.

González’s football journey began at UD Cruz Santa before he joined the CD Tenerife academy in 2014 at the age of 12. After seven years progressing through the youth ranks, he made his senior debut for Tenerife B on 17 February 2021 in the Tercera División.

His breakthrough was immediate, he scored twice against CD Vera and less than three weeks later, he struck four goals in a single match against CD Buzanada. He finished his debut campaign with an outstanding return of 14 goals in just 16 appearances.

His senior debut came in August 2021 in a 2-1 Segunda División victory over CF Fuenlabrada before spending the 2022-23 season on loan at Atlético Madrid B, continuing his development in one of Spain’s elite football environments. On returning to Tenerife, he signed a contract extension until 2028 before embarking on new challenges with Torreense in Portugal and Muaither SC in Qatar.

Each move demanded adaptation to a new country, culture and style of football. At every stop, González built a reputation for settling quickly and delivering goals.

“I want to score goals for the team”: Ethyan González

A traditional centre-forward with modern mobility, González combines intelligent movement inside the penalty area with physical presence. Standing 1.85 metres tall, he offers aerial strength, hold-up play and an instinctive eye for goal, qualities that have travelled with him from Spain to Portugal and Qatar.

His career has been defined by explosive bursts of finishing and a consistent ability to make an impact. For NorthEast United FC, he adds another dimension to an evolving frontline as the club continues building a squad capable of challenging for honours.

Speaking after completing his move, Ethyan González said:

“I have travelled a long way to find this shirt, and I did not expect the road to lead here, but that is exactly why I am ready for it. I have always believed my next chance is my biggest one. This is that chance. I want to score goals for the team and give them a reason to stay loud.”

Pedro Benali looks excited about the new addition ahead of the new season

Head Coach Juan Pedro Benali believes the Spanish forward’s development across multiple countries has prepared him well for the challenge ahead.

“When you watch a striker, you look beyond the goals. You look at his movement, his understanding of the game and his willingness to work for the team. Ethyan has those qualities. He has already experienced different leagues in different countries at a young age, and every step has made him a better player. Now he comes to NorthEast United FC, where we expect him to keep improving and make a real impact for this club.”

Club CEO, Mandar Tamhane said the signing reflects the club’s long-term recruitment philosophy.

“Ethyan is exactly the kind of player we want to bring to NorthEast United FC. He is young, ambitious and already has experience across different football cultures. We believe in identifying players early and giving them the environment to continue growing. Our responsibility is to build an ecosystem where talented young footballers can develop, succeed and help the club move forward. We believe Ethyan has all the qualities to do that.”

How long is Ethyan González’s contract with NorthEast United FC?
