Odisha FC registered their third draw in the ongoing Indian Super League 2024-25. They faced Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Kalinga Stadium on October 10, Sunday, which ended with each side managing to score just one goal and settling for one point from the match.
The match began with an early goal by Hugo Boumous in the fourth minute of play to give Odisha a 1-0 lead in the match. Mohun Bagan replied with an equalizer by Manvir Singh in the 36th minute of play.
After the draw, Odisha FC remained in ninth place in the points table with nine points while Mohun Bagan are also unmoved as they are placed in second position with 14 points from seven matches.
In the post-match press conference, Odisha FC’s coach Sergio Lobera, who returned to the field after a one-match suspension, expressed his satisfaction after gaining one point from the match.
Ranawade defended well
Sergio Lobera applauded his players in the press conference. He highlighted Amey Ranawade’s performance at the backline and also added some more lines for a few more players, whose performances were crucial in registering a draw in the match.
He said, “Amey defended well in the match. It’s never easy to defend against Mohun Bagan Super Giant as they keep on trying to break the defense line. And today’s game was not about two or three players, it was about teamwork. Even Mourtada Fall and Saviour Gama had an impressive display of skills at the backline.”
Odisha’s dominance at Kalinga Stadium
It has become next to impossible for most of the sides to defeat Odisha FC at Kalinga Stadium. In the last season, they remained unbeaten in the Indian Super League at the same venue, while in the ongoing season, they have lost just one match.
Sergio Lobera proudly highlighted this achievement by the team. Sergio Lobera stated, “The support at home is always pushing us to perform better. We are happy to have a strong side at home. We have lost one game in two seasons.”
“We need to continue the process and work hard. The most important thing for me is to make people happy who are coming to the stadium to support us”, Sergio Lobera concluded.
