Odisha FC will try to make the most of home advantage in the ISL semi-final first leg.

Odisha FC are up for a mouth-watering clash against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) playoff semi-final after defeating Kerala Blasters in the knockout fixture. Facing the ISL League Winners’ Shield winners will be a major test of their resolve and mentality as the side prepare to play their first-ever semi-final fixture in the competition.

Mohun Bagan have a lot of high-quality players in their squad who can make a huge impact single-handedly. Sergio Lobera’s men will be wary of the Mariners as both teams previously clashed in the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stages, where both tasted a win against each other.

The semi-final fixture at the Kalinga Stadium is set to be full of fireworks and the following key battles could likely decide the outcome:

Amey Ranawade vs Liston Colaco

Liston Colaco set the stage alight with a thunderous long-range strike that gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the title-deciding clash with Mumbai City. His performance on the wings left the Islanders with plenty of headaches. The winger has the capability of hurting any defensive setup if he is allowed space and time to operate in the goalmouth area.

Amey Ranawade, one of Odisha FC’s most consistent performers this season, will hope to keep Colaco silent during the semi-final clash. Their duel will be exciting to witness.

Ahmed Jahouh vs Joni Kauko

Ahmed Jahouh had a massive impact in Odisha FC’s 2-1 win over Kerala Blasters. The midfielder dominated with two pre-assists and had 130 touches of the ball showing his resilience. His influence on the Kalinga Warriors’ performances is huge and his abilities are known in the ISL.

Mohun Bagan have a clinical operator in Joni Kauko themselves. He can feed the ball expertly on the wings and execute penetrative through balls with ease. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top and helps their side secure a place in the final. It will surely be a key midfield battle.

Roy Krishna vs Hector Yuste

Among the several key battles on the pitch during Odisha FC Vs Mohun Bagan, the majority of eyes will be on Roy Krishna’s duel with Hector Yuste. The former was involved in both of Odisha’s goals against the Yellow Army, providing two assists. He is a tricky operator who can catch defenders off-guard with his movement and quality in the final third.

Hector Yuste has consistently performed in the Mariners’ defence this season. His reading of the game and concentration levels are second to none, making him a perfect candidate to contain Roy Krishna. Whoever comes out on top in this battle will certainly make a huge impact on the proceedings for their respective teams.
