Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal got back-to-back wins in ISL after a disappointing start.

Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal picked up their second straight win in the Indian Super League (ISL) by picking up a 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Saturday (7 December).

Two second-half goals from PV Vishnu and Jeakson Singh helped the Kolkata side get their first away win in the campaign and take their unbeaten run to three games in the ISL.

Oscar Bruzon was pleased to see his side able to pick up the three points and also execute his plans perfectly to frustrate the Marina Machans. After the game, he stated: “I think we were very good all through the game, but in moments of the game was different. We knew Chennaiyin played a home game and physically they were topping the ISL stats in terms of winning duels and are strong in physical situations.

“We worked hard tow in the second balls. The idea in the first stages was to contain them and to stop their long balls because we knew in the 1v1 situations you cannot win all the duels in 90 minutes.

“I thought the team who scored the first goal had the bigger chance to win the game and that’s how we planned for the game. Towards the end of the first half, our team started moving more forward for chances. In the second half, we frustrated Chennaiyin with their compact shape, making them play in the wings which isn’t what they like to do. Today the game was completely in our control.

“In the second half, we were very good in counter-pressing, won a lot of balls in the build-ups and 2-0 is a good result. We won the ball, created a lot of chances, occupied the ball and also got a lot of chances,” Oscar Bruzon also added.

East Bengal are back in ISL action on Thursday (12 December) when they face off against an in-form Odisha FC at the Salt Lake Stadium.
