East Bengal can cut down their deficit from the sixth place in the Indian Super League (ISL) table if able to defeat an in-form Jamshedpur FC side at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (21 December).
Even though the Red & Gold Brigade only had one win in the last four games against the Men of Steel, they have to produce an inspired display to win this. East Bengal are coming into this game on the back of a thrilling 4-2 win over Punjab FC, in which they came back from being 2-0 down.
Ahead of the Jamshedpur FC clash, Oscar Bruzon was asked to rate his side’s current chances of securing a top-6 finish and making the ISL playoffs this season. Oscar Bruzon stated: “Realistically, tomorrow we have a chance to win the game tomorrow. If we do that, the distance will be very short and then we go to Hyderabad and probably we finish the year with more than what we expected.
“We need to keep it as a dream but as an achievable dream. We will try to do everything to be in that position. From my first day here, I’ve insisted that East Bengal is worth and deserves more. Us being in the last positions of the table is not realistic, what is realistic is to challenge for titles and to do so we must be in the top six. This is a realistic dream, not optimistic,” Oscar Bruzon also added.
Oscar Bruzon also didn’t want to comment much on East Bengal developing a ‘fear factor’ after their heroics against Punjab FC when speaking about the tie against Jamshedpur FC, as Oscar Bruzon stated: “I think our opponents not only watch our second half but the good span of results we’ve had in last weeks.
“Khalid Jamil is not a coach with fear. Coaches like him will try to understand and try to grow from what we are doing. That’s the same as us, when we face strong rivals we try to be at our best and neutralize the rivals’ strong points.
“They are coming from a privilege position on the table. We need to consider them the favorites for tomorrow’s game, but the reality is that we are playing at home and that we have big chances. If we can do the things we did in the last two days, then the players are smart enough to adjust and understand what we must do to defeat Jamshedpur. The game is going to be open, the reality is tomorrow the forces are there and the 11 players on the pitch will show who is ready to get three points,” Oscar Bruzon also added.
East Bengal can cut their deficit from the sixth-place side in the ISL to five points if able to get a win over the Men of Steel.
