Chennaiyin FC will be eager to overturn their sorry home form against the Kerala Blasters!
Chennaiyin FC welcome foes Kerala Blasters to the Marina Arena tomorrow in what will be an intense match. The Marina Machans have six games left in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season and they have to go on a winning streak to make it to the playoffs.
Kerala Blasters beat Chennaiyin FC 3-0 in the away fixture, completely outplaying the Blues. Owen Coyle addressed the press before the home game and this is what the CFC coach said:
Owen Coyle on the upcoming game against Kerala Blasters
Chennaiyin FC have won just one of their eight home games this season. However, the Marina Machans have never lost against their Southern rivals and will be looking to extend that streak against the Kerala Blasters.
Talking about both factors, Owen Coyle said, “I think any time, because of the rivalry, any time is a good time to play Kerala Blasters and we have a great home record against them. We’re here to win games and what we haven’t done well enough is capitalize on the home games.”
“We’ve had some good performances at home against Goa, Odisha, and Mumbai. In the Odisha game we know we should have won and the FC Goa home game we could have won. Also, Mohun Bagan, 0-0. I think Mohun Bagan was the only game in 14 or 15 consecutive games they’d failed to score in. So it showed how hard the boys were working together.”
The Chennaiyin FC manager added, “My point is, in difficult moments, you feel sorry for yourself and you’ll achieve nothing or you pick yourself up, you get together, and you go and try and that’s why I think this is the perfect game for us to be our best against great opponents.”
“The rivalry between the fans and everything else and that’s the big thing. We want to put a smile on those fans’ faces. The best way to do that is to perform well against Kerala and win the game.”
Owen Coyle on rumours surrounding Chennaiyin’s dressing room atmosphere
There has been news floating about unrest in the Chennaiyin FC dressing room and the players having a bust up when it comes to training. Owen Coyle denied these rumours and addressed this.
The Chennaiyin FC manager said, “Well very simple it’s nonsense but again it goes back to my earlier point when you’re having difficult runs or whatever then that’s going to happen but what I can say is I don’t do social media. But I get to hear this was said and that was said. It’s absolute nonsense I mean I sat at the training ground every day these boys are working ever so hard.”
“Are there disagreements? There are always disagreements but not to the extent of somebody trying to make a drama and make a story from it but the simplest answer to that is to win games. When you’re winning games there’s nothing said but of course, if you’re not somebody wants to have a story somebody wants to create something.”
Owen Coyle concluded by saying, “I think somebody else said that the players did not care about losing. So all I would say is then that’s a total contradiction. If players didn’t care about losing they wouldn’t be fighting so the actual story totally contradicts itself to begin with. So listen, it happens in football all over the world. Social media is big. Somebody has to get some clicks, a byte or whatever it is.”
“All I would say is this is a good group of players and they are working for themselves and they make mistakes, yes. That’s what we need to eradicate. But in terms of what we are as a club, there is no issue with that.”
