Owen Coyle talks about Chennaiyin FC’s playoff chances, wishes East Bengal the best for AFC Conference League!

Owen Coyle’s Chennaiyin FC secured a dominant win over East Bengal in Kolkata
Going through a rough patch, Owen Coyle’s Chennaiyin FC turned a new leaf at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday as they beat East Bengal 3-0. Goals from Wilmar Jordan Gil, Daniel Chima Chuku and a Nishu Kumar own goal helped the Marina Machans get all three points.
Courtesy of their win, Chennaiyin FC have moved up to the 10th spot in the 2024-25 Indian Super League table. While the result was important to boost the morale in the dressing room, CFC still have a mountain to climb to make it to the playoffs.
Here is what the Chennaiyin FC manager Owen Coyle said in the post-game press conference in Kolkata:
What did Owen Coyle say about Chennaiyin FC’s playoff chance?
Having played 20 ISL games, Chennaiyin FC are on 21 points after an important 3-0 win against East Bengal. Three of CFC’s four remaining league games are at home. It is important that the Marina Machans win all four games to have a shot at a playoff berth.
Talking to the media in regards to possibly finishing in the top six, Owen Coyle said, “We are not in a situation where we can control anything. The only way we can do it is by benefiting from teams having a bad run like we have had up until now.”
“All we can do is concentrate on what we want to do and make sure we are the best version of ourselves in the remaining games. We want to put a smile on the faces of the fans. We want to put a smile on the faces of the owners as they spend a huge amount of money every year to run this wonderful club.”
Owen Coyle sends his best wishes to East Bengal!
Having won the Super Cup last year, East Bengal secured a berth and are currently competing in the AFC Challenge League. The Red and Gold Brigade won their group and will next face Turkmenistan’s FK Arkadag in the quarterfinals in March.
Speaking in regards to East Bengal’s AFC Challenge League hopes, Owen Coyle said, “We as a club wish East Bengal well in the AFC because they are representing India. We want Indian clubs to do well in the AFC competitions.”
The Chennaiyin FC manager concluded by saying, “We sincerely wish Oscar and the East Bengal team every bit of luck and good fortune going through in the AFC. Let’s hope they can, as they have done up to this point, do the ISL and India proud.”
