Chennaiyin FC will play Hyderabad FC on Wednesday at the Marina Arena.
Hyderabad FC travel to Chennai on Wednesday for their Indian Super League 2024-25 fixture against Owen Coyle’s Marina Machans. The two sides played out a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Both sides are in search of a win as they have both lost their last three ISL fixtures. Chennaiyin FC manager Owen Coyle addressed the press before the game against Hyderabad FC. Here’s what the Scotsman said:
Owen Coyle on Ryan Edwards and having Eleven captains on the pitch!
In the ISL, Owen Coyle has worked with inspirational captains like Lucian Goian and Peter Hartley. The Scotsman was asked if Chennaiyin FC captain Ryan Edwards was not quite vocal enough on the field compared to the other captains.
Replying to the question, Owen Coyle backed his captain. Owen Coyle said, “I think Ryan’s an outstanding captain and does well. What I would say and I think this is more to the general point and I think it’s a good point. I think the whole team can be more vocal. You know, as much as Ryan’s appointed the captain when you’re on that field you should have eleven captains.”
“You need eleven leaders. I think something that Connor is getting better at, he can still improve on that as well as the other boys, the young Indian players. Everybody has different personalities. Some will be the life and soul of the party, some will be quiet, some will be reserved. That’s fine but when you’re on that football field you have to be a Lion. Every one of them should understand this because that’s what it takes to win games”
Owen Coyle concluded by saying, “A really good shout good information is as important as a good pass but that’s what we need I think that’s a good point that we can do more of that collectively I wouldn’t single it out to anybody else I think Ryan’s been a very good captain but I think collectively we can do more of that so I think that’s a good point I think that’s fair.”
What did the Chennaiyin manager say regarding the fans?
Chennaiyin FC are yet to win a game at home this season. They have drawn twice and have lost two games. A run of bad results has not gone well with the supporters and the CFC fans have voiced their thoughts on social media ahead of the game against Hyderabad FC.
Talking in regards to the supporters and winning home games, Owen Coyle said, “With how much the relationship the players have with the fans, it’s important for us that we try to put a smile on their face. All we do is to win games but the way you won’t do it is by feeling sorry for yourself. That’s when everybody has to come together. The word supporter is to support, not just when you’re winning but to support every time and our supporters do that.”
“I mean they’re so loyal, they’re colorful and they get behind the team. I thank them for that and what I always say is keep staying with your club, that’s what you do and when you start winning then again that’s a great feeling collectively.”
