The Shers are hunting for all three points in a high-stakes encounter.

Indian Super League (ISL) club Punjab FC and head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis will be facing a determined Jamshedpur FC side in matchweek 12. The Greek manager voiced his confidence in the Shers after recording back-to-back clean-sheet victories against Mohammedan SC and Mumbai City FC.

While exuding confidence ahead of their Indian Super League clash against the Red Miners, Dilmperis acknowledged the challenge posed by a packed home crowd.

This will be the first time that these two sides will be going head-to-head this season’s ISL and it’s expected to be a feisty affair.

Panagiotis Dilmperis knows Jamshedpur FC’s challenge

The Greek manager was full of praise for Jamshedpur’s footballing culture and work ethic, while also commending the club’s commitment to winning games this season. While describing the game to be a battle of equals, given the Red Miners’ season so far, Panagiotis Dilmperis stated, “If they win, they’ll match us in points and rank higher due to head-to-head results. It’s a very balanced contest.”

Panagiotis Dilmperis also highlighted how his team will be going full throttle from the first whistle. Panagiotis Dilmperis stated, “Before every game you go to your football bank account performance and it says zero. You have to start from the beginning and in the end, you will have something inside that you are going to lose again for the next game. The only thing that stays is mentality, motivation and points.”

Punjab FC are benefiting from Leon Augustine’s versatility

The club’s recent games have also highlighted right midfielder Leon Augustine’s versatility this season. While originally being a right winger, Augustine has been deployed at right wing, at left-back and even at right-back in some games.

While talking about his adaptability to different roles in the team, the 26-year-old stated, “I think the most important thing is to get the confidence which the coach gives me. When the team needs me, I will be always there. It doesn’t matter. I am happy while playing football. What I think right now is playing in the pitch is more important than which position I am playing.”

A fixture of huge ramifications for Punjab FC

Ahead of the daunting task of playing at a stadium packed with Jamshedpur fans, Panagiotis Dilmperis is aware of the challenge ahead. A win for Punjab will keep them within the top-six coveted playoff spots and give them some breathing space. Conversely, a win for Jamshedpur will be a huge boost for their playoff aspirations come the end of the season.

Dilmperis has expressed confidence in their readiness to compete and highlighted the importance of mentality and motivation. He stated, “Previous performances don’t carry over. Each match starts at zero, and so we build from there.”

A match that promises to be a tightly contested affair between two ambitious teams has all the potential to be a high-scoring affair. While Punjab hasn’t won a game against Jamshedpur in their past two meetings, Dilmperis and his men will be determined to notch their first head-to-head win.
