The club’s players have been competing despite not being paid three months’ wages.

Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 debutants Mohammedan SC had a campaign to forget, with problems on and off the field, resulting in a season to forget for the fans. However, the club faces more troubles in the coming weeks as players have refused to attend training sessions due to unpaid salaries.

According to different sources, Khel Now have come to know that the Mohammedan SC players have reportedly not been paid more than three months of wages by the club’s management. The conflict over wages has been ongoing at the club since the first reports of salary unrest surfaced in mid-January.

Mohammedan SC’s financial troubles surfaced in January

Mohammedan SC have been entangled in a web of financial and administrative challenges that have disrupted its progression in its debut ISL season. In late January, Khel Now reported about disputes among key investors Shrachi Sports Ventures and Bunkerhill amid growing concerns over player welfare.

Despite fulfilling over half of their committed investment, Shrachi Sports did not receive any shares in Mohammedan Sporting Club Pvt. Ltd. The predicament mirrored by Bunkerhill led to them issuing a legal notice to the club and suspending any funding. Unfortunately, it has severely complicated matters internally and has affected the players for the worse.

While the Mohammedan SC management tried to lock the mess behind the scenes away, it eventually percolated onto the field as they finished 13th in the final league standings. With 13 points in 24 games this season, Mohammedan failed to win any home games and conceded 24 of the 43 goals at home.

The lack of funds severely hampered the club from signing any places in the January transfer window, eventually getting them relegated to the I-League for the 2025-26 season. The club’s situation has disappointed their fans severely, and they wonder what their season could have been.

Have Mohammedan SC hampered their Super Cup preparations?

The perilous state of the Mohammedan SC has dampened player and fan morale as they remain unpaid amid the financial turmoil. It has led to the suspension of training sessions by the players as they continue to lose match sharpness and fitness, hampering their 2025 Super Cup preparations.

The competition, which is set to begin on April 21, could have been a salvation for the Black Panthers and their fans after a challenging season. However, with players sitting out and the club management in turmoil, the club’s future is dire before a brutal campaign for next year.
