After losing a match against Chennaiyin FC and settling for a draw against Bengaluru FC, Odisha FC finally are back on the winning track by defeating Punjab FC by 3-1 goals.
Diego Mauricio scored two goals and Isak Vanlalruatfela one for Odisha while for Punjab FC Madih Talal was the only player to score a goal and provide them some hope in the match. With the win, Odisha FC moved to the second spot in the points table, which is led by Mumbai City FC.
The post-match press conference was led by Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera who looked satisfied with his team’s performance and also appreciated the fans for their support throughout the season.
Difficult to recover in time and perform
Odisha FC played an away game three days back and came back home to face Punjab FC. The schedule looks tiring for which coach Sergio Lobera said, “We had a game three days back, it’s difficult to recover and perform again today, for which I’m really proud of them.”
Rushed in the first half
Odisha FC looked a bit out of touch in the first half of the game. They managed to score a goal but also conceded one. Addressing the particular performance, the coach said, “In the first half, we rushed into the opponent’s half to score goals. And they are a good counter-attacking team, that’s why whenever we have lost possession, they try to generate something. We understood the situation in the second half and managed it accordingly.”
Unbeaten streak at home
Odisha FC ended their league stage campaign of the Indian Super League 2023-24 without losing a single match at their home venue, the Kalinga Stadium. When a question was raised regarding this achievement, Sergio replied with an appreciation for the fans.
Lobera stated, “I would like to thank the fans, they have been very loyal supporters and have been behind us in every situation. When we play at home, we believe we can win any game from any situation.”
