Indian players have stepped up their games this season as the ISL enters the business end of the season. With each point shifting the momentum for teams in the top-six spots, these players stepped up for their teams when it mattered the most.

5. Aakash Sangwan (FC Goa)

The Gaurs’ left-back displayed his versatility and impact once again as FC Goa walked out comfortable winners against Chennaiyin FC in matchweek 18. The 29-year-old left-back contributed at both ends of the pitch, scoring a crucial goal while also maintaining an invaluable clean sheet.

Displaying his defensive solidity and ability to push forward in attack, Sangwan was instrumental in his team’s performance as they continue their ascent to the top of the ISL standings. Apart from recording five clean sheets in 16 games this season, he has also contributed with a goal and two assists this season.

4. Asish Rai (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

The 26-year-old once proved to be a rock in Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s defence during their last game against Chennaiyin FC. The full-back showcased his pace, tackling, and positional awareness, while playing a vital role in ensuring a clean sheet for the Mariners.

The 26-year-old has shown an ability to make overlapping runs and deliver crosses in the attacking phase of play, adding an extra dimension to his game. While putting on a disciplined defensive performance against a competitive opponent, Rai earned a well-deserved recognition this week for his relentless effort.

3. Jerry Mawihmingthanga (Odisha FC)

Mawihmingthanga once again showed why he is a pivotal figure in Odisha FC’s thrilling 3-2 win over Bengaluru FC. The winger scored a crucial goal to give his team the advantage in the 50th minute against the Blues.

His goal not only kept his team in contention during a tightly contested game but instilled a lot of belief in the Juggernauts to win the game. The 27-year-old showed quick feet and intelligent movement while troubling Bengaluru’s defence throughout the match, who went down to 10 men in the first half. His ability to step up in crucial moments has been a consistent trait for his side this season, and his performance this week showcased his growing maturity as a key player for coach Sergio Lobera’s side.

2. Vishal Kaith (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

The Mohun Bagan Super Giant shot-stopper Vishal was instrumental in his side’s clean sheet performance this week. His ability to distribute the ball and command of the box were crucial in keeping the opposition at bay and earning a much-deserved clean sheet.

The 28-year-old while only making one save this game, had a relatively comfortable night, but ensured his side maintained their defensive resilience. His calmness under pressure and ability to organize the backline demonstrated why he is one of the league’s top goalkeepers and helped him earn his ninth clean sheet of the season.

1. Lallianzuala Chhangte (Mumbai City FC)

The Islanders’ captain and star winger stole the show with yet another stellar attacking performance for his side. Chhangte added security for his side in the 78th minute with his decisive goal that calmed nerves ahead of the final 12 minutes of the game.

Known for his pace and flair on the ball, Chhangte’s ability to take on defenders and create chances was on full display against Mohammedan SC. His clinical finish further solidified his reputation as one of the best Indian players in the league this season. With three goals and three assists this season in 16 games, Chhangte proves why he is the first name on the Mumbai City FC team sheet.
