Many Indian players impressed in the ISL game week 16.

The 16th Gameweek of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) unboxed some high quality matches coupled with a few shocking results. Hyderabad FC left it late to rescue a point against FC Goa away from home in the first game before Odisha FC came back from 2-0 down to 2-2 within a span of few minutes in the dying moments of the second half against Chennaiyin FC.

The third game witnessed a dramatic affair between Punjab FC and NorthEast United as both sides shared spoils. Bengaluru FC were handed an upset by Mohammedan SC at home with a 0-1 win before Mohun Bagan completed the league double over East Bengal with yet another derby win. Jamshedpur FC troubled Mumbai City FC and recorded a 0-3 win in the city of dreams.

On that note, let us take a look at Khel Now’s team of the week for game week 16.

Formation: 4-4-2

GK – Padam Chettri (Mohammedan SC)

Padam Chhetri put up a memorable performance against Bengaluru FC in ISL this week away from home. He kept Bengaluru’s star-studded attacking line-up at bay with his heroics under the bar and helped Mohammedan SC pull off an upset. Chhetri made three saves, including two from inside the box along with two punches and high claims each. He also made three clearances as well and soaked in all the pressure that the home side put at him.

RB – Asish Rai (Mohun Bagan SG)

The Indian international was one of the top-performing Indian players this week in ISL. Asish Rai created the winning goal in the iconic Kolkata derby when he set up Jamie Maclaren for the only goal of the match. He made bombing runs forward and also tracked back in time to help out his teammates. Rai recorded two blocks and one interception while winning all of his aerial duels. Additionally, he executed two key passes and had a shot on target as well.

CB – Florent Ogier (Mohammedan SC)

Florent Ogier makes his second consecutive appearance in Khel now’s ISL team of the week. He stood tall in the heart of Mohammedan SC’s backline and cleared away everything that the home threw at him. He was at the top of his game and looked very confident. Ogier made eighth massive clearances, three blocks, two interceptions and tackles each alongside a crucial goal-line clearance. He also won the majority of his aerial and ground duels while completing 83% of his passes.

CB – Joe Zoherliana (Mohammedan SC)

Joe Zoherliana has formed a formidable partnership with Florent Ogier at the back and the results are there for everyone to see. Joe has played a crucial role in keeping two back-to-back clean sheets for the Black panthers and deserves a lot of appreciation for his never-say-die attitude. Zoherliana made nine clearances, the highest by any defender this week and also made two blocks in the process.

The midfielder set up Alan Paulista for the equaliser in the 91st minute and turned the game on its head. The 28-year-old completed 90% of his passes, including five key passes. He also made two clearances and interceptions each. Issac controlled the tempo of the game with his vision and composure in the middle.
