Many Indian players impressed in the ISL gameweek 21.

The 21st gameweek of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) showcased a busy and long week of football. Mohun Bagan became the first team to secure qualification into the playoffs following their win against Punjab FC in the opening game before FC Goa emerged victorious against Odisha FC with a 2-1 win at home. Mumbai City FC secured bragging rights with a 2-0 win against NorthEast United in the first-ever ISL match in Shillong. 

Hyderabad FC then completed the league double over Mohammedan SC with a solid 3-1 win in front of their loyal fans before Chennaiyin FC thrashed East Bengal with a 0-3 win away from home. Bengaluru FC also brought an end to their winless run and bounced back to winning ways with a victory against Jamshedpur. Odisha FC and Punjab FC shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in the final game.

On that note, let us take a look at Khel Now’s team of the week for game week 21.

Formation: 3-4-3

GK – Arshdeep Singh (Hyderabad FC)

Arshdeep was outstanding this week in ISL. He stood out as the best-performing goalkeeper and guided Hyderabad FC to a much-needed win with his heroics under the bar. Singh made seven saves, the most by any goalkeeper in a single match this season. Four of his saves were from inside the box and he even came off his line once to clear away the danger. 

CB –  Mehtab Singh (Mumbai City FC)

Mehtab continues to shine for Mumbai City FC. The Indian international has been one of the most impressive players this season and has consistently dropped in impactful performances. He made ten clearances along with an interception and blocked each in ISL. Singh completed 91% of his passes, including a key pass and kept NorthEast United’s high-quality attacking line at bay. Interestingly, Mehtab has registered the most number of successful passes this season (1123).

CB – Tiri (Mumbai City FC)

Tiri has formed a solid partnership with Mehtab at the back and has been the driving force behind Mumbai City FC’s fantastic defensive record this season. The Spaniard recorded an assist when he set up Chhangte for the second goal in ISL. He also made seven clearances, four interceptions and one tackle while winning three duels. Tiri also helped his side register their eighth clean sheet of the season. 

CB – Dippendu Biswas (Mohun Bagan SG)

ISL 2024-25: Javi Hernandez, Imran Khan monopolize midfield for Matchweek 2 Team of the Week

Dippendu has risen through the ranks at Mohun Bagan and has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet. His development has been phenomenal and he has grown leaps and bounds in stature. Biswas racked up an assist against Punjab FC while maintaining defensive solidity in ISL. He made nine clearances, three interceptions, one block and one tackle each. The defender also won the majority of his duels and maintained a passing accuracy of 86%.

RM – Brison Fernandes (FC Goa)

Brison has been nothing short of a sensation for FC Goa this season. He has been firing on all cylinders and has delivered up and above everyone’s expectations. The Goan forward executed three key passes and maintained a passing accuracy of 84%. He had two shots on target and one shot off target in ISL. Fernandes had five touches in the opposition box while executing four pass passes into the final third.

CM – Alberto Noguera (Bengaluru FC)

Alberto Noguera was one of the top performers this week. He scored a brace and inspired Bengaluru FC to a win after a long winless run. Noguera completed the most number of passes in that match (43) with an accuracy of 93% in ISL. He also made four key passes and won 4/5 ground duels. The 35-year-old made two ball recoveries along with one clearance and interception.

CM – Joseph Sunny (Hyderabad FC)

The young midfielder put in a performance worthy of a mention against Mohammedan SC. He came off the bench and scored a wonderful goal. He had four touches in the opposition box and made one-headed clearance as well. Sunny executed 86% of his passes to perfection while completing 100% of his dribbles. He also won one duel and gave a good account of himself on the pitch.   

LM – Ramhlunchhunga (Hyderabad FC) 

Ramhlunchhunga created a couple of chances for Hyderabad FC and scored one goal in the process. He won the majority of his ground duels executed two key passes and made three ball recoveries as well. He made three tackles, one interception and one clearance each. The 23-year-old also completed 22 passes and won two free-kicks.

RW – Lallianzuala Chhangte (Mumbai City FC)

Lallianzuala Chhangte signs long-term contract at Mumbai City FC.

The Mumbai City FC skipper was on fire this week. He scored an important goal and inspired his side to a much-needed win in Shillong. Chhangte created three chances with three key passes and had two shots on target. The 27-year-old has six touches in the opposition box and made three clearances, two tackles, one block and an interception block each.

ST – Allan Paulista (Hyderabad FC)

Allan Paulistan emerged as the hero for Hyderabad FC this week in ISL. He scored one goal and dropped a wonderful performance to take his side over the line against Mohammedan SC. The Brazilian target man also racked up an assist while registering two shots on target. Paulista had four touches in the opposition box. He also made four ball recoveries and three-headed clearances to help out his teammates at the back.

LW – Jamie Maclaren (Mohun Bagan SG)

Jamie Maclaren continues to put in clutch performances up front for Mohun Bagan. The striker from down under now has three goal contributions in his last two games, including a match-winning brace in the last game. He had three shots on target and seven touches in the opposition box. Maclaren made two ball recoveries and tackles each. He won all of his ground duels as well.
