ISL 2024-25: Gurmeet Singh, Subhasish Bose garrison Matchweek 7 Team of the Week defence

Many new players made this time to the ISL team of the week.
We are done and dusted with yet another game week of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The action with Mohun Bagan securing an away win against Hyderabad FC before Punjab FC completed a win from behind against Chennaiyin FC. And then came the most shocking result of the week when league leaders Bengaluru FC were taken to the floor by FC Goa and handed their first defeat of the season.
NorthEast United continued their fine run of form and got the better of Odisha FC in the first game of Super Sunday before Mumbai City FC pulled off a chaotic win against the Kerala Blasters at home. In the final game of the week, Chennaiyin FC ripped Jamshedpur FC apart and secured a crucial win on the road.
On that note, let us take a look at Khel Now’s team for the week of gameweek 7.
Formation: 4-4-2
GK – Gurmeet Singh (NorthEast United FC)
Gurmeet was on fire in NorthEast United’s triumph over Odisha FC in Guwahati. The shot-stopper pulled off five crucial saves, including a match point-blank save against Hugo Boumous in the dying minutes of the game. He made three saves inside the box and also made two high claims.
RB – Khaiminthang Lhungdim (Punjab FC)
The right-back had a great game in Punjab FC’s win over Chennaiyin FC. He was solid at the back and also provided the necessary support upfront. Lhungdhin made bombing runs forward into the opposition box and created the second goal Luka Majcen in the process. He made two interceptions and tackles while winning ⅔ ground duels.
CB – Asheer Akhtar (NorthEast United FC)
The NorthEast United FC defender had a field day in his side’s thumping win over Odisha FC. Asheer kept a check on Odisha’s star-studded attacking unit and did not allow them to make much of a difference.
He made eight clearances and two interceptions and won the majority of his ground and aerial duels. Moreover, he also had a shot on target.
CB – Subhasish Bose (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)
Subhasish Bose continued his fine run of form and took Mohun Bagan over the line against the Nizams. He wasn’t just rocking solid at the back but also made sure to put in notable contributions upfront.
Bose scored one of the two goals, made five clearances, six tackles and won eight duels. He also completed 26/32 passes.
LB – Nathan Rodrigues (Mumbai City FC)
The 20-year-old wonderkid surprised everyone with his five-star performance for the Islanders in a dramatic win over the Kerala Blasters.
Nathan was at the top of his game defensively and kept the Blasters’ attackers in check. He won 6/8 duels and maintained a passing accuracy of 87%. Moreover, he scored the winning goal for his side late in the game.
RM – Lallianzuala Chhangte (Mumbai City FC)
Lallianzuala was undoubtedly the best Indian performer in the league this week. The Mumbai City FC skipper scored a goal and also provided an assist and inspired his side to a crucial win.
Chhangte looked lively on the right flank and turned up as a constant threat for the Blasters. His pace and understanding of the game came in very handy for Petr Kratky’s side.

CM – Greg Stewart (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)
The Scottish midfielder shouldered the creative duties with perfection for the Mariners. His vision and ability to execute pinpoint passes were on display as Mohun Bagan cleaned up Hyderabad.
Greg put in a picture-perfect from a free kick set up Subhasish Bose for a header and earned an assist to his name in the process. Stewart is leading the charts for the number of assists this season (4).
CM – Dejan Drazic (FC Goa)
Dejan Drazic turned up big time in FC Goa’s statement win against the league leaders. Drazic put the game to bed with a goal and ensured all three points for his side. He was a livewire on the left flank and troubled the opposition defenders a lot with his pace and trickery.
The Serbian executed 83% of his passes, including two key passes and also completed 4/4 dribbles. He also won the ball cleanly multiple times.
LM – Irfan Yadwad (Chennaiyin FC)
The youngster has had a great season so far and has been called up to the Indian national team in the process. Irfan has been a mainstay for Chennaiyin FC and has put in really good performances.
He scored a goal in his side’s 5-1 win over Jamshedpur FC and looked really composed on the pitch. He executed four key passes, completed ⅔ dribbles and also made some important defensive contributions.
ST – Alaeddine Ajaraie (NorthEast United FC)
The Moroccan superstar has made it a habit of scoring goals and being a part of the team of the week. Alaeddine made it to the history books by creating the record for the most number of goal contributions in the first seven games of the season.
He is now leading the goalscoring charts with nine goals and also has four assists to his name. Ajaraie scored twice and provided an assist for the third goal in NorthEast United’s 3-2 against Odisha FC.
ST – Luka Majcen (Punjab FC)
Luka Majcen returned to the pitch in style after sustaining an injury early on in the season. The Slovenian target man scored twice to help his side complete a comeback win against Chennaiyin on the eve of Diwali.
Majcen was on fire and everything that he touched turned into gold. He had a busy game led his side from the front and made sure they added three more points to their tally.
