Bengaluru FC started their ISL season with three points.
In a thrilling match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Bengaluru FC’s academy graduate Vinith Venkatesh made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in Indian Super League (ISL) history. The young forward scored the decisive goal in the fixture, securing three crucial points for Bengaluru FC against East Bengal FC.
The game, a tightly contested battle, saw the 19-year-old Venkatesh earn his first ISL start, an opportunity granted by Bengaluru’s head coach, Gerard Zaragoza. Despite the presence of experienced players like Halicharan Narzary in the squad, Zaragoza put his faith in the young striker, giving him a chance to showcase his talent on the big stage.
Bengaluru FC had already built up the excitement around Vinith Venkatesh’s debut on social media earlier in the day, reminiscing about the young star’s journey. The club shared a heartfelt message, highlighting how Venkatesh had been a part of the club’s journey over the years.
“Vinith Venkatesh watched from the stands when the Blues made their ISL debut against Mumbai City FC in 2017. He was a ball boy on the touchline when they won the title in 2019. Tonight, he lines up to make his debut at the Kanteerava,” Bengaluru FC posted.
After the match, Gerard Zaragoza praised Venkatesh for his heroics in the game. The manager said, “He had a good first half. He is too young. He has good quality. He needs to improve a lot of things in his body, in his movements and tactically understand the game. We will work with him to make him even better. He was nervous in the first match, playing with people like Sunil Chhetri and Rahul.”
Venkatesh’s goal not only secured a vital win for Bengaluru FC but also etched his name in the league’s record books. The teenager showed remarkable composure and skill, converting a crucial opportunity that ultimately decided the game. His efforts were met with rapturous applause from the home crowd, who were thrilled to witness the local academy graduate shine on his debut.
