Karolis Skinkys steps down as Kerala Blasters FC sporting director

Skinkys has spent six years with the Blasters in the ISL.
Karolis Skinkys has announced his departure from the role of sporting director at Kerala Blasters FC.
Skinkys has been associated with the Indian Super League (ISL) club for the last six seasons, playing a crucial role in the Blasters’ emergence under the tutelage of Ivan Vukomanovic.
The Lithuanian football executive underlined Indian football’s growing uncertainty behind his departure from the ISL side.
The architect behind KBFC’s identity

Skínhys arrived in the ISL in 2020, when Kerala Blasters FC were mostly seen languishing in the bottom half of the league table.
The Blasters possess one of the most engaging fan bases in the country but have lacked stability on the pitch. With Skinkys at the helm, the Lithuanian has transformed the sporting culture of the club during his tenure.
Skinkys’ long-term planning, youth development programs, data-driven signings, and foreign recruitments played a huge role in the club’s improvement in the last couple of seasons.
Under the sporting director’s leadership, the Blasters established a playing pattern based on attacking intent and tactical discipline and have gradually become a playoff regular.
Smart recruitment over star power

Skinkys’ greatest strength lies in his smart recruitments, whether it’s foreign signings or cracking homegrown talent acquisition.
Players like Adrian Luna, Dimitrios Diamantakos, and Marko Leskovic have been cornerstones of Kerala Blasters FC’s project, while they were the newcomers to the league before their arrival.
His recruitment strategy extended to Indian players as well. Players like Sachin Suresh, Danish Farooq, Vibin Mohanan, Mohammed Aimen, and others have been getting regular playing minutes in the ISL, establishing themselves as promising faces in Indian football.
Karolis Skinkys may have left Kerala Blasters FC empty-handed, but he has built a core system that has been consistently up to the mark over the years.
The sporting director expressed his gratitude to the club in his farewell post, saying:
“After six unforgettable seasons, I have decided to step down from Kerala Blasters due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Indian football.
Thanks to everyone at the club and to the incredible fans for making Kerala feel like home. Once a Blaster, always a Blaster.”
