The Kalinga Super Cup semifinals will see Mohun Bagan Super Giant going against FC Goa at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. As the reigning ISL Shield Winners and ISL champions, the Mariners would be keen to complete a domestic treble by winning the Kalinga Super Cup title and recording another win against the Gaurs.

Goa, on the other hand, would love to upset the odds and break Mariners’ hearts as they hunt for their second Kalinga Super Cup title. Let us look closer at the past five encounters between these two sides and determine if the Gaurs can really get the better of the Mariners.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2-0 FC Goa (8th March 2025)

The two sides’ most recent encounter occurred at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata. Mohun Bagan and the Gaurs were battling for a playoff spot, with the latter also trying to cost the former the ISL shield.

While the game witnessed the Gaurs maintain the lion’s share of possession, they also scuppered several opportunities to take the lead. While the Mariners took eight shots in the game, it was an own goal from Boris Singh and a goal from Greg Stewart that earned his side all three points in a must-win game.

FC Goa 2-1 Mohun Bagan Super Giant (20th December 2024)

Having secured only two losses in their first 12 games, FC Goa welcomed Mohun Bagan in match week 13 of the 2024-25 ISL season to the Fatorda Stadium. On the other hand, the Mariners faced the Gaurs as they sat at the top of the league standings after 12 matchdays.

It was the Gaurs who came out on top against the Mariners courtesy of a brace from Brison Fernandes, which cancelled out Dimi Petratos’ heroics on the night in Goa. It was a perfect night for the Gaurs, who recorded a rare win over Mohun Bagan.

FC Goa 0-1 Mohun Bagan Super Giant (14th February 2024)

The two ISL teams met at the Fatorda Stadium during the 2023-24 season where it was the visitors who recorded all three points. Despite being placed second in the ISL league standings, Mohun Bagan was always going to be a tough opponent for the Gaurs.

A Dimi Petratos goal in the 74th minute for his fifth goal of the ISL campaign helped the Mariners record an impressive win. While the Gaurs would eventually finish third, the Mariners will go on to seal an ISL shield winning season with 48 points in 22 games.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-4 FC Goa (23rd December 2023)

The first meeting between the two sides came during the 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League, which saw the Mariners succumb to one of their heaviest losses at home. The 1-4 loss to the Gaurs was a humbling experience for the Mariners, who would turn it around at the end of the season.

Goals from Victor Rodriguez, Carlos Martinez and a brace from Noah Sadaoui was enough for Goa to script a historic win in Kolkata.

FC Goa 1-2 Mohun Bagan Super Giant (31st August 2023)

The two sides also met each other during the semifinals of the 2023-24 Durand Cup campaign witnessed Mohun Bagan triumph over the Gaurs to progress to the Durand Cup Final. The game, which ended 1-2 courtesy of goals from Jason Cummings and Armando Sadiku which cancelled out Noah Sadaoui’s opening goal.

A heart-breaking result for the Gaurs, who tripped on the penultimate hurdle in what could have been a chance at winning the 2023-24 Durand Cup. The game set the tone for the season that both Goa and Mohun Bagan were gonna endure in the coming weeks.
