Indian Football Calendar 2024: Major tournaments to look forward to in September 2024

The 2024-25 ISL season commences this September.

After a brief halt in proceedings, the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season is upon us, as the action in the Indian first tier resumes from the 13th of this month. Additionally, the month of September also witnesses the Indian football team in action for the first time under the tutelage of Manolo Marquez, as the Blue Tigers play two scheduled friendly games at Hyderabad. 

Here is a look at the full calendar for Indian Football in September 2024:

Intercontinental Cup 

The footballing action in September will commence with the Intercontinental Cup, wherein India will host Syria and Mauritius at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.

The format of the cup is such that all three teams will play against one another in a round-robin format, and at the end of these games, the team which stands top of the table, wins the 2024 Intercontinental Cup. 

The tournament will be of vital importance for the National team, as it will allow the new head coach to experiment with his approach to the national team, and will also give him a much-needed understanding of his new role. 

  • September 3, 2024 – India VS Mauritius
  • September 9, 2024 – India VS Syria

Indian Super League (ISL)

The 11th edition of the Indian Super League will commence on the 13th of September, with ISL giants Mumbai City FC making a trip to Kolkata, to take on their bitter rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The new season will feature 13 teams, which is the most in ISL history, with Mohammedan SC being the latest entrants courtesy of their I League victory last season. 

  • September 13, 2024 – September 29, 2024 (League Stage Matches)

I-League 3 

The second season of I-League 3 will also be in action in September, as the teams in the fourth tier of Indian football battle it out with promotion at stake. The competition consists of a total of 25 teams from across various states, and also teams that were approved by the AIFF as a “one-time exception.”

  • September 3, 2024 – September 11, 2024 (League stage matches)

AIFF Youth Leagues (U13/U15/U17)

The Youth League is a system of youth football leagues that are managed, organized and controlled by the All India Football Federation. It consists of three age group competitions: U-17 (AIFF Youth League), U-15 (Junior League) and U-13 (Sub-Junior League). The Leagues will commence in September and will continue for the next few months. 

29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 

The Senior Women’s National Football Championship for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy is the premier women’s state competition in India. The first edition of the annual tournament was held in Manipur in 1992.

All affiliated State Associations of the AIFF are eligible to participate in the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy, which is played on league-cum-knockout basis.

The group stages of the competition will start on the 1st of September and will continue till the 15th of this month. 

  • September 1, 2024 – September 15, 2024: Group stage matches
