Next Generation Cup: Players who have played in Premier League
The Next Generation Cup 2024 will start from 1st August 2024.
The Premier League Next Generation Cup organized by Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) in collaboration with the Premier League has been a revolutionary platform for young footballers from India, South Africa and England to showcase their skills.
Since its inception in 2020, the tournament has provided a unique opportunity for teams from England, India and South Africa to compete against each other and develop their talents. Many top clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Crystal Palace and many more Premier League clubs have previously taken part in the competition.
The tournament’s format has evolved over the years, starting as a U-14 event for English teams and a U-15 event for Indian teams. However, from its second edition in 2022, the tournament was upgraded to a U-21 tournament, providing an even greater challenge for the young players.
The fourth edition of the tournament kicks off on 1st August. Some players have represented the English clubs in the previous season and then gone on to represent the senior side. Here is the list of players that have represented their club in the Next Generation Cup and the top division of English football.

1. George Earthy
One of the most notable success stories from the Premier League Next Generation tournament is George Earthy, a 19-year-old midfielder who has been part of West Ham United’s academy since the age of six. Earthy participated in the 2022 edition of the tournament and caught the eye of the Hammers’ coaching staff.
He went on to represent West Ham United in the 2023-24 Premier League season, making four appearances for the senior side and scoring a goal against Luton Town. Earthy’s impressive performances also earned him a spot in the Europa League Round of 16 clash against Freiburg. Earthy will be looking for more game-time under new boss Julen Lopetegui next season.
2. Ethan Wheatley
Another player who has benefited from the Next Generation Cup is Ethan Wheatley, a young forward who represented Manchester United at the inaugural edition in 2020.
Wheatley’s performances in the tournament helped him become the 250th academy graduate to represent the legendary club when he made his debut for United against Sheffield United in a 4-2 win in the 2023-24 PL season. The Red Devils had a season to forget in terms of injuries to senior players during that campaign. Wheatley is currently part of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season tour with the senior team in the USA.
