Mumbai City prodigy Niall Goghavala signs for Blackburn Rovers
Niall Goghavala was also a part of the Barca Academy Mumbai.
Rising from the Barca Academy Mumbai and youth ranks of Mumbai City FC, youngster Niall Goghavala has signed a contract with English Championship (second division) side Blackburn Rovers’ Academy. Niall is regarded as one of the best players in his age group, and plies his trade as an attacking midfielder.
Blackburn Rovers is a football club that competes in the EFL Championship. They currently sit at the 19th position in the Championship. The Lancashire-based club had eleven successive Premier League appearances until they were relegated in 2012. Since then, they have never been able to earn a promotion. They are also the winners of the 1994-95 Premier League season.
Niall Goghavala was playing for Mumbai City FC’s U-15s before making this bold move to England. The Mumbai lad is cited as the next big thing from Mumbai football. He got under the spotlight for the first time in the AIFF Junior Boys National Football Championship. He scored a brace for Maharashtra in the opening game of the tournament against Karnataka.
The #9 for Mumbai City U-15 had been training with Barca Academy since 2017 before playing for the Islanders. Niall Goghavala represented Barca Academy Mumbai in various international tournaments like Barça Academy World Cup, Dubai Super Cup and Singha Cup, among the major ones to name, which helped him unlock his true potential. He was also the top scorer in the Mumbai School Sports Association tournament while training at the Churchgate centre.
This signing is certainly big news for Indian football, and it paves the way for other footballers to unlock their potential and seek a move abroad. The details of the contract are yet to be revealed.
