Pyari Xaxa became the first Indian player to have five goals in a single international match after 11 years.

The Indian Women’s football team made a statement of intent with a 13-0 thrashing of the Mongolia Women’s team in the first match of their 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. One of the standout performers for the Blue Tigresses was their young forward Pyari Xaxa, who scored five goals in the game!

Xaxa was unstoppable in front of the goal, putting away chances efficiently to help her side get a huge win to start their qualification campaign. In doing so, she’s also joined a lucrative club of Indian players to have scored five or more goals in a single senior international match. Here we look at the players to have bagged five or more goals in a single international match for India in the past.

Pyari Xaxa (vs Maldives Women, 23 June 2025)

Pyari Xaxa made the most of the opportunity handed to her by Crispin Chhetri in the start of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. She led the frontline valiantly for the Indian women’s football team, finding the gaps in the Maldives Women’s backline to punish them.

Xaxa ended up scoring five goals in the 13-0 thrashing, which included some really slick finishing from close range. In doing so, she also became the first Indian player to have five goals in a single international match after 11 years!

Bala Devi (vs Afghanistan Women, 17 November 2014)

The Indian women’s football team were at their dominant best at the 2014 SAFF Women’s Championship. It was a tournament in which they dominated and won the title after scoring 36 goals across five games. The most memorable game was arguably the 12-0 thrashing of Afghanistan women in the group stages.

Bala Devi was the most ruthless woman for India in the game, as she scored five goals across the 90 minutes. She completed her hattrick within the 35th minute mark and scored her fifth in the 84th minute, bewildering the opposition defenders with her finishing.

Kamala Devi (vs Maldives Women, 14 September 2014)

The Indian women’s football team took part at the 2014 Asian Games, where they started the campaign in dominant fashion. They picked up a 15-0 win over the Maldives women in the first game, which resulted in a rampage of goals from the Blue Tigresses.

Kamala Devi scored four goals in the first half for her side, producing a real clinic in terms of finishing chances from the final third. She completed her fiver by scoring her fifth in the 65th minute, securing a rare feat of scoring five goals in an Asian Games match-up!

Sasmita Mallik (vs Maldives Women, 14 September 2014)

Indian women’s football team’s 15-0 thrashing of the Maldives women in the 2014 Asian Games resulted in a number of rare achievements being set by multiple players. That also included an impressive feat for legendary Indian winger Sasmita Malilk.

The tricky winger tormented the Maldives defenders with her movement through the game and was at her ruthless best in the match-up as well. Sasmita scored her hat-trick within the 26th minute to help her side take a huge lead. However, she also showed some late resolve by scoring two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the match to take her tally to five goals in a single game!

Bala Devi (vs Bhutan Women, 13 December 2010)

The 2010 SAFF Women’s Championship was also a memorable one for the Indian women’s football team as they were able to crush through their opponents to clinch the title. However, their biggest win in the competition was in the 18-0 battering of Bhutan Women, which remains the biggest win ever for the Indian women’s team.

It was an insane goalfest at Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium in Bangladesh that left spectators stunned. Bala Devi was at her most prolific in the game, as she toyed with the opposition defenders. She was able to repeatedly breach their backline and score five goals against Bhutan Women, putting in a goalscoring clinic.

Sasmita Mallik (vs Bhutan Women, 13 December 2010)

If one thought that Bala Devi’s heroics in India’s 18-0 thrashing of Bhutan at the 2010 SAFF Women’s Championship was amazing, then Sasmita Mallik even outdid her in that aspect on the pitch. Mallik had the game of her career in that, tormenting the defenders and being unrelenting in terms of her finishing in the final third.

Mallik finished the match having scored an incredible seven goals in a single international match. This remains the most number of goals any Indian player has ever scored at an international match and is unlikely to be broken anytime soon.

They ended up getting a 10-0 over the helpless Guam Women’s side. This included five goals being scored by forward Sujata Kar. She was incredible in terms of finishing off the chances, scoring twice in the first half before scoring a second-half hat-trick too. She ended the game with five goals, putting the opposition defenders to the sword.

Lokeshwari Devi (vs Guam Women, 9 December 1997)

The first time that an Indian player had scored five goals in a single international match was back in 1997. It actually happened for the India Women’s side in their participation at the 1997 AFC Women’s Championship in China. The Blue Tigresses impressed in the competition, finishing in second place in their group and only suffering a 1-0 loss to Japan Women.

Indian women’s football team finished their group stages with a 10-0 thrashing of Guam Women. In the game, forward Lokeshwari Devi was at her clinical best. She scored five goals to torment the opposition side and became the first Indian player to bag a five in an international match.
