Rajasthan United FC set to play I-League matches in Jaipur
The Desert Warriors will play their home games in their state for the first time.
I-League club Rajasthan United FC have announced that they will be playing their home games in Jaipur this season. This announcement is of a lot of significance as I-League games will be played for the first time in the state of Rajasthan.
Having rebranded from JECRC CF in 2020, Rajasthan United managed to win the R-League A Division in their inaugural season. Owing to the hard work on and off the pitch, the Desert Warriors eventually qualified to play in the I-League in 2021. They have since been a part of the second division in Indian football.
Where will Rajasthan United play their home games?
Rajasthan United FC will play their I-League games at the Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium from the 2024-25 season. Located in Jaipur, the stadium is said to have a capacity of 3,000 and has been refurbished recently in order to host the I-League games.
The dressing room has been renovated and the seating chairs have also been installed in the stadium. The pitch at the Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium is said to be Astroturf and the running track around the football pitch has also been worked upon.
Where have Rajasthan United played their home games so far?
In the 2021-22 season, Rajasthan United played all their I-League games in Kolkata as the city was the tournament’s base during the Coronavirus pandemic. Post-COVID, RFC used the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi for their home matches in the 2022-23 I-League season.
In the first half of the 2023-24 I-League season, Rajasthan United used the Deccan Arena in Hyderabad as their home base. They played their last five home games in the Namdhari Stadium in Punjab.
What does the Future hold for Rajasthan United?
The Desert Warriors finished 11th in the 2023-24 I-League season, managing to avoid relegation. Going into the new campaign, Rajasthan United have boosted their squad with the addition of a few big names.
With important players like the former Premier League star Saido Berahino and Real Sociedad academy graduate Alain Oyarzun, the club can certainly be expected to do well this season.
Given that Rajasthan United will now be playing games in Jaipur, will the added home support help the I-League club to be crowned champions and be promoted to the Indian Super League (ISL)? Only time will tell.
