Justice (retd) Ravinder Singh appointed Chairperson of AIFF Players' Status Committee
AIFF Players’ Status Committee is yet to give the final decision in Anwar Ali’s case.
In a recent turn of events, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Justice (retd) Ravinder Singh, Allahabad High Court, as the Chairperson of the AIFF Players’ Status Committee (PSC), effective until the committee’s term concludes in 2026. The federation has informed Ravinder Singh about the same in a letter dated October 21, 2024 and accessed by Khel Now.
This move comes after Delhi FC had filed a fresh case in the Delhi High Court during the Anwar Ali saga, claiming that the AIFF’s Players’ Status Committee doesn’t have two members with legal experience as per the AIFF’s old constitution. Ravinder Singh now becomes the second member of the PSC with legal experience under his belt.
The AIFF in its letter has informed Ravinder Singh about his appointment as the Chairperson of the AIFF Players’ Status Committee which will be valid until 2026. The federation has also asked the former justice to send his acceptance of the said position through an email as soon as possible and expressed their keenness to have him on board.
What is the entire saga?
Anwar Ali’s controversial move to East Bengal and the consequences that followed are not new to anyone in Indian football. After a lot of chaos, the AIFF PSC granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Anwar Ali to don the colours of East Bengal. In a follow-up to that, Delhi FC had recently filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court highlighting the requirement for two members with legal experience as per the AIFF’s old constitution.
Interestingly, no objections were raised on the committee structure when Anwar Ali got his NOC on 19th September. Under the Disciplinary Code, the AIFF has now assigned Justice Ravinder Singh to the PSC. Therefore, the objection has been dismissed and he is expected to attend the hearing scheduled for October 23, 2024.
