Mohun Bagan’s domination in the Kolkata derby continues with this triumph.

Mohun Bagan reigned supreme in the Reliance Football Development League (RFDL) derby against East Bengal with a huge 5-1 win on Monday (March 18). This came just over a week after the Mariners had also picked up a formidable 3-2 win over the Red & Gold Brigade in the Indian Super League (ISL).

A few of the senior teams’ youngsters featured in this derby between the reserves side. The likes of Suhail Bhat and Dippendu Biswas (Mohun Bagan), as well as Sayan Banerjee (East Bengal), were involved in this thrilling derby as they can’t play for the senior team right now due to the ongoing international break.

The Mariners began the game showing impressive intensity and playing on the attack. They found the breakthrough in the 23rd minute when winger Sibajit Singh finished off an impressive move. Just before the end of the half, Taison Singh produced an amazing solo effort to make it 2-0 around the 43rd minute.

However, Mohun Bagan only piled up the pressure after the break. Suhail Bhat, who has produced some bright performances for the senior team this season and impressed for the youth teams, got into the act with a nice finish in the 48th minute. He scored his brace in the 67th minute to further add to East Bengal’s humiliation.

The Mariners were not done yet. Dippendu Biswas, who recently earned his breakthrough for the senior team under Antonio Habas, scored in the 82nd minute to create history. East Bengal managed to get a late consolation goal thanks to Aman CK, but that didn’t really do much to save them from this bitter defeat.

Mohun Bagan will hope that this big win gives them enough motivation and confidence to go on to finish the RFDL campaign on a high note.
