India at top of SAFF U17 Women's Championship 2025 points table after consecutive wins over Bhutan

India hammered Bhutan in the fourth match to register consecutive wins.
The Indian U17 Women’s team is on a roll in the SAFF U17 Women’s Championship. After convincingly thrashing opponents in the first three matches, India again destroyed Bhutan on Wednesday to continue the momentum. The Young Tigresses registered a jaw-dropping 5-0 win over the hosts.
With this win, India have 12 points in the bag that takes them to the top of the points table. They are three points clear of Bangladesh, who are sitting in second position. India will face Nepal in the next match on August 29 at the Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan.

India comfortable with 12 points

India have made a rollicking start to the tournament. Losing out on the title last year must have fueled the Young Tigresses to go the extra mile. The change in the format has warranted that India stay on top of their game throughout the tournament. This year, the tournament is following a round robin league format, which means there will be no knockouts. The team at the top of the table will be declared winners. India have earned an edge with consecutive wins in the first four matches.
The defending champions have had a hot and cold start to the tournament. Bangladesh opened their campaign with a 3-1 victory over the hosts, Bhutan. However, they could not back that performance with another notable one against India. It was expected to be a tight contest since the defending champions and the runners-up were up against each other, but it proved to be an effortless triumph for the latter.
Two wins in a row against Nepal have kept Bangladesh in the race, as they keep the pressure on India, with 9 points in their bag.
Nepal are third on the points table with three points after the first four games. Recovering from a shameful 7-0 defeat to India in the first match, Nepal registered a gritty victory against Bhutan to open their account. However, they received a brutal reality check against Bangladesh as they lost 3-0 and 4-1 in consecutive matches.
The hosts, Bhutan, are languishing at the bottom of the table with four defeats on the trot. However, Bhutan were not outrightly dismissed in the first two games. They fought hard on both occasions, but could not keep the pressure on the opponents, leading to conceding goals. But the games against India were forgettable. Conceding an 8-goal defeat and losing again with a 5-0 scoreline has knocked them out of the competition.
Joakim Alexandersson would want ruthlessness
Joakim Alexandersson, the U17 women’s team coach, would not want to squander the lead they have on the points table. India play their next match against Nepal. Nepal will be coming into this encounter deflated after consecutive losses against Bangladesh, but they will not be pushovers.
The next match will be crucial for the Young Tigresses. Victory against Nepal will seal the trophy. Alexandersson has an eye on the upcoming AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers as well. The Swedish manager would want to ace this tournament to bolster their preparations before the big assignment.
