SAFF U19 Championship 2025 will kick off in Arunachal Pradesh tonight as India and Sri Lanka kick off their group stage campaigns. The six-team tournament will conclude on 18th May.

Hosts India alongside Sri Lanka and Nepal are placed in Group B whereas Bangladesh, Maldives, and Bhutan are in Group A. Top two teams from each group will qualify to the semifinals.

The India U19 football team won the last edition of the SAFF U19 Championship that took place in 2023. Bangladesh on the other hand won the SAFF U20 Championship that took place in Nepal last year. Playing at home, the Blue Colts will have crowd support on their side as they attempt to regain their title in 2025.

Sri Lanka U19 vs India U19: What to expect?

Going into the game, the India U19 football team will be the firm favourites. The Blue Tigers boast some exciting talents in the squad including Danny Meitei, Bharat Lairenjam, Omang Dodum, and others.

Going up against Bibiano Fernandes’ squad, the Sri Lankan U19 team are the underdogs. They have not enjoyed the best record in recent games but an upset win over India would surely bring in much needed confidence into their camp.

Sri Lanka U19 and India U19: History in SAFF U19 Championships

This is the seventh edition of SAFF’s junior Championship and the third one in terms of SAFF’s U19 Championship. India finished as runners-up in the 2015 SAFF U-19 Championship and won the 2023 SAFF U-19 Championship by beating the Pakistan U-19 team in the final.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will be participating in a SAFF U-19 championship for the first time. They did play in the U-18 and U-20 tournaments thrice, however, have failed to make it out of the group stage in either edition.

Sri Lanka U19 and India U19 will play at the Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia, on 9th May 2025 (Friday). The match will kick off at 7:30 PM IST and will be streamed live on the Sportzworkz YouTube channel.
