Kawasaki Frontale ply their trade in the J1 League.

Former Hyderabad FC data analyst Shlok Asher has joined J1 League giants Kawasaki Frontale in a data engineer role. He worked for two years for the Indian Super League (ISL) side and has now been able to bag a major role in one of Japan’s biggest clubs.

Asher confirmed the same on his X (formerly Twitter) account, saying: “I am delighted to announce that I will be assisting @frontale_staff with data analysis this season. I am grateful for this opportunity, and look forward to doing my best for this historic club.”

Shlok worked for Hyderabad FC for around two years, joining them initially as a Data Analysis Consultant in January 2022. He was promoted to the role of Head of Performance and Data Analyst in June 2023, working seven months in that role before leaving midway through the 2023/24 ISL season.

During his time with the Nizams, Asher worked behind the scenes to help Hyderabad FC get better prepared for matches. He provided feedback on players on areas of their game to improve through video analysis and captured the necessary statistical information to help the thinkk-tank figure out which players can improve in what part of their game.

Shlok Asher was a part of the Hyderabad FC outfit that won the 2021/22 ISL trophy and also finished second in the 2022/23 ISL league phase. But now, Asher is in for a brand new experience in his career in his behind-the-scenes role for Kawasaki Frontale.

This role is likely to have him deal heavily with statistical data and provide feedback to the Frontale staff about the strengths and weaknesses of the players. Kawasaki Frontale have won the J1 League four times in the last decade, the last being in 2021.

They won the Japanese Super Cup title earlier this year, but are currently in 14th place in the 2024 J1 League. They are, however, going to play in the AFC Champions League Elite next season. Asher will be focused on helping the Japanese side improve their form and ensure that his key statistical findings can help improve their form going forward.
